The Mexiacan versions are affordable but have fret buzz and are a great starter bass.
Japanese is more expensive and then the American made is the highest and best quality in price. I have to say the Japanese Made Jaguar Bass is a great bass for the price. The reality is , if you want a real Fender Jazz or P bass; you shell out the bucks for an american and or american deluxe.

Perhaps that one mexican bass you tried when you were testing out your jaguar bass was poorly set up.

I assure you the mexican factory does make a lot of high quality instruments and i would put my mexican jazz up against any american standard. Its just a case of finding the instrument that plays and sounds best to you.

A major difference between USA and MIM is the body blank used to make the body. Most USA alder basses have a three piece body while most MIM will have a 4 or 5 piece body.

So you can upgrade a MIM all you want but it will never be the same as a USA one. Close, but not quite the same.

I have a CIJ 51 RI. I like it a lot. Very good wood and excellent finishing and a very good neck and fretwork, but the electronics are not up to USA standards with mini-pots and a poly chicklet cap. I replaced all the electronics except the mini-pots. The original pickup was ok but I wanted a split wound one for hum reduction.
