Quick update. Just had a Candy Green Metallic Performer delivered today. One of the cleanest I have ever seen, the body is near mint, the neck above average, but it does have an interesting stress crack starting at the E tuner on the back of the headstock. Instead of running straight or with the grain like most of them, it turns north across the grain towards the face. I wish this site allowed us to post from our drives, but I did send a pic to Brother Dave for his input.

Assuming this is not a fatal flaw, I would only need the Burgundy Mist to complete my collection of Performers. I would appreciate any leads.

Thanks.

PS. Having trouble finding replacement knobs, in particular the white "F" tops that pop off the tone control knob. Have talked to all the usual suspects, so any leads there would also be most welcome. Thanks.

The Performers used the same serrated "rubber"-insert knobs used on the Elite Strats, Teles and P-Basses.

You can find them on eBay.

Thanks chromeface, I will keep my eyes open. Actually only need the white plastic "F" caps but will take what I can get.

Congratulations on scoring #4!

Like you, I've always wanted to have one of each color but haven't found a white or sunburst.

Here are my three. The burgundy mist metallic one has been my main bass since 1991. It has a Hipshot D-Tuner on the low E string. All have Stratocaster knobs. I have the original ones safely stored away. Back when I used to gig in cover bands, I felt the 3-piece knobs were too likely to fall apart and I knew then they were rare.

I keep the burgundy one on a wall hanger in my music room for easy access but the other two haven't come out of their cases in probably three or four years.

George, I envy you the Burgundy Mist and the fact you have those three piece knobs. I am missing two "F" caps. Let me know if you ever see any knobs/caps around for sale.

I might end up with a second Burst. If I do I will let you know.

My white one is my player. It also has the 85 Hipshot on it. I play the others too, but just noodling at home to give them some exercise once in awhile.

You have a very nice looking family there!

Add mine to the count. A blue Performer bass.

I got it for the thin neck.

Any photo from the USA Performer Elite IV? Someone has posted a picture showing the shortlived 5-string version a couple of years ago.

For those who know the story the USA Performers do not sport a pickguard; they have three pickups, a 5-way pickup switch and an ebony fingerboard as opposed to the most common Japanese Standards.

I remember the burgundy fiver. I have never seen one with my own eyes or even heard of one for sale. Trust me.....I would be all over it. And there is very little information to be had about them. I haven't even dug up a color chart, wiring diagram...nada.

Those Strat knobs are much better than the stock "serrated rubber" types.

I have have been hoarding those knobs, buying them whenever they pop up. The price each is up around $70 now, so time to start selling. I have three extra after replacing those missing the Fs on my five Performers.
