Hello bassists --
I apologize if this is not a good question. My son bought a Fender Mustang bass that he loves. He got it in September and then went off to college.

He hasn't replaced the strings yet, and I want to get a set or two to put under the Christmas tree.

I have asked many salespeople what strings to buy as replacements for the strings that came on it -- they all say "short scale" until I point out that the strings go through the body and not down to a bridge. Then they hesitate.

If any of you own a recently manufactured Mustang Bass with the through body stringing, please tell me what you use for strings -- the more answers the better!!

Thank you very much.

I own a 1976 Fender Mustang Bass guitar (through the body strings).
I have been using ghs Bass Boomers, Medium Scale, Set #: 3040 (Roundwound, Regular gauge) on this electric bass. They will work very well for you!

id still go for regular bass strings, you get better sustain. Short scale strings are pretty rubbish, like rubber bands. Its at worth least a try.

Rotosound makes a flat wound for the 30" scale, I prefer the flat wound over the round wound tone.

I actually have a set of LaBella 1954's (0760M) on my 68. The shortened neck seems to take the pressure of the heavy strings better, and it has a way cool thump. I cut down a full set, a no no usually, but they play and sound great.

I am not suggesting anyone do this, I'm just saying the results were pretty nice.

I have two Musicmaster basses and I have both of them strung with the DR "black beauties" coated strings. They play similar to flats, great response, and I'll admit I just like the way they look on my basses.

And both of my Musicmasters have string through body bridges too.
