Meanwhile, Rondo Music is almost sold out of their bass vi models.

If Fender made a mexican or Japanese version, it would sell.

Am I nuts for holding out on a possible Fender?

Don't think Fender is going to make that axe for you. Schecter isn't that bad of a bass, if as in a lot of brands, it's in the higher line.

Tried one. Didn't have that Fender magic. No soul. Has to be a Fender. 8)

I played one and it was awesome. I wish they would make a version in their asian shop for much less. Maybe the same shop that makes the Mustang bass. I have a Mustang and it's awesome. Nice glossy neck, good woods etc.. And it only cost me around $500.

Since a bass VI is not most peoples main instrument, most folks wouldn't want to spend $2,500. But Fender might sell a bunch in the $500 range. It's nice to have a couple different alternative instruments.

One more thing. It would be nice to have a modern version. I played a 30" scale bass VI from another company and it had a 1 3/4" nut width. Since the strings are wider, it was nice to have the wider neck. For chords etc.. But Fender's style is so much sexier than the company I'm talking about.

^ True. For guitar collectors, it would be good news if Fender would lower the price for it. And truly, it is just an awesome guitar.

This is one instrument I've definitely always wanted. I'm a Cure fan, so that's one reason I'm so partial to them. I've always loved their aesthetic, too. I'm mainly a bassist, but also play some guitar, so this would be useful, too. I'd be more comfortable playing on this for guitar type parts on my music. I just think these are so damn cool, too.

Be wary what you wish Fender to sink $$$$$$ into.

A buddy had the hots for a real Fender VI for 3 years, bought one last May (buttermilk colour, striking, just beautiful)...he loved it...

...then after about 6 months decided they were not meant for one another, now it's on the market and apparently not selling; there are a bunch of others on the net, too.

On the other hand, a $600 street Squier VI without vibrato might generate enough interest to stay in the catalogue. Maybe even a $1000 street MIM.

In this opinion, the VI is basically a Tenor (leaning slightly toward baritone) Sax with strings...and most horn players blow alto....

If memory serves, Jack Bruce played his Fender VI into a Showman single 15 JBL D-130, with Cream.
