Hi All,

Not sure if this should go in basses or acoustics... Sorry if I guessed wrong.

I am wondering some recommended strings for the Victor Bailey acoustic-electric bass. I know that Fender has the 8060's (.45 to .95). But I am unclear, since it is a 34" neck, if these are the best choice and also what some of my other options might be. It's a bit hit or miss on who stocks what...

Thanke very much.

Cheers,
bryanrd

Fender Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Bass 8060LS, p/n 073-8060-000,
Gauges .045, .055, .075, .095 are the specified string on the four string Victor Bailey. $15 at Just Strings Dot Com if you can't find any locally.

Fender also uses some D'Addario strings on their lesser acoustics. The new KINGMAN for example comes with D’Addario® EXP™ PBB170 .045, .065, .080, .100. specified. They are $35 at Just Strings Dot Com.

You might try flatwound strings. Some flatwounds are high-tension (Fender, LaBella) but others like D'addario Chromes and Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Flats are lower tension and won't cause problems with a hollow body bass with a glued-on bridge like high-tension strings might.

I had an acoustic bass guitar for many years (not a Fender model). When I switched to D'addario Chromes from Phosphor Bronze I was pleased for two reasons:

1. It sounded more like a BASS and less like a twangy acoustic guitar.

2. I didn't play my ABG very often and the bronze strings would get kind of crusty looking and feeling over time. Flatwound strings last forever. They don't make your frets turn green and they don't rust or get funky like phosphor bronze does.

Acoustic volume seemed about the same on my bass.

You might also try tapewound strings. I never have, so I can't comment on them.

Good luck in your search.
