In 1968 ( I was 11), my dad surprised me with a 1964 Jazz bass. The guy who sold it, had taken steel wool to the original finish and removed the pick guard. I played it many years in it's "original" destroyed state and now, I would like to attempt restoring it. But, over the years, it has suffered some damage, mostly due to use, so I will need to refinish with something that will hide the wood grain since there are places that will need to be filled.

I am looking for someone who might have access to a color chart from 1964. Maybe I have choices. That would be nice. I know it had a 3 color sunburst when new.

Any info is appreciated, so Thanks in advance.

Once you decide on the color, I'd take it or send it to an expert in refinishing & repairing vintage guitars. I would not want to botch a refin on a Pre-CBS '64 Jazz by trying to do it myself. That would be pennywise and pound foolish. Click the link in my forum signature below and then when that page opens click on REFINISH, RESTORE & MAJOR REPAIR for a list of qualified instrument refinishing experts.
