We all know that Fender Bass Guitars are the GREATEST Basses in the World, why else would oh so many companies and people model their bass guitars after them. Be it The Fender Precision Bass or The Fender Jazz Bass, no other company offers the quailty of Fender. Now it is common knowlegde that Fender guitars and basses from 1965 and below (i.e. Pre-CBS Models for you connoisseurs out there) made by The Legendary Leo Fender, are the Greatest Guitars ever crafted. Yet a Thought comes to mind when looking at today's new and more complex models of Fender's line-up. WHICH ONE REIGNS SUPREME??? While The Precision Bass is still prefered my many players of the world, from amatuer to Professional, and is still a force to be reckoned with. While it does have a much more comfortable body and much more even weight distribution for more comfortable playing and an almost rectangular neck, the single split pick may not give enough power or even quailty and tone that certain players are looing for and for players with samller hands the large nut width might be a bit difficult to master. Now the Jazz Bass does have TWO pick-ups placed on it, along with a much thinner width at the nut, and the weight distribution of the body puts the majority of the weight on the lower end of the bass taking some of the stress off the shoulder. Yet the radical shape of the body an the off shape of the neck (how it goes from very narrow at the nut to large at the 12th fret) does make it a little more difficult to play. But one thing is for certain, both bass can be use for absolutely ANY style of playing from Blues to Heavy Metal. And the Odd balls out of there, The Telecaster Bass, The Bass V, The Bass VI and even The Rare and seldom heard-of "Cowpoke" Bass are still near and dear to our hearts and can add to Fender's allure of high quailty basses. Whether or not you play on a Fender, a Sadowsky, a Lakland, or even if you don't play on a Jazz Bass style or a Precision Bass style bass guitar, You still must tip your hat off to Fender Bass Guitars, The Bass that COMMANDS Respect.

When its all said and done I still think the Fender Precision Bass is the top dog. IMHO the P-Bass is THE grab and go/plug and play.

The Precision is it.
Just how many modern basses would you trust to lay down a bass track with dead strings? Jamerson made the "Funk Machine" work on all of the Motown hits.

So true. The P-bass is the one and probebly the most copied of all bass guitars. Leo got it right the first time out.

It's hard to improve upon a P-Bass. When I play something else I usually end up trying for a P-Bass sound. OTOH, a J-Bass is no slouch either.

Jazzes with maple fretboard are best imo, because i dont like the neck or pickguard on p basses, and the other models like jaguars and mustangs dont come with maple fretboards.
Although i would like to try a roscoe beck signature model sometime

Anywhere from $279 for a Squier to 5 or 6 thousand dollars for a
Custom Shop creation.

Though the mighty P-BASS is a sure fire classic that takes a beating and comes back for more, I still say the Fender Jazz is the coolest of Fender Basses....I also love the classic Gibson Grabber and Ripper basses as well.

Fender once again scales new heights of cool with the Jaguar Bass guitar. After all, we did invent the bass guitar, and we did design the Jaguar guitar, and this baby combines both into one unbelievably cool instrument.

Bassists too can now be blinded by the chrome and have more switches and dials than Mission Control at their disposal. The alder body comes in cool Black or Hot Rod Red finishes, with a thin, fast one-piece C-shaped maple neck (matching headstock on Hot Rod Red model). The rosewood fingerboard has aged white pearloid block position markers, and the roar comes from two Jazz Bass® pickups with active/passive, series/parallel switching. So incredibly cool—we should’ve thought of this years ago!
I am now the proud owner of one and it is a cool bass and I will be doing allot of experimenting

I'd suggest starting a new thread and asking that. The rotary pots are master volume and master tone. The thumbwheels are preamp bass & treble that effects active mode. Toggles for active/passive, series/parallel, and on/off for each pickup. I'm still not sure on/off for each pickup was a good idea. I'd have preferred a blend pot to on/off switches.

While the Jaguar makes a bunch of different sounds, it is pretty complicated to fly.

I love the look of the hot rod red with matching headstock. Very retro. But I'm a knob fiddler and 2 knobs are plenty for me. Also from my experience slide switches on the old Jaguar guitars were seldom reliable for long without some attention like spraying with contact cleaner now and then.
