Hey all. I'm fairly new to the forum and am very disappointed to see no discussion of Mustang basses. So, if you've got one or let one get away, post a picture of your's. Here's mine:

I've got one on lay away at a friend's pawn shop. It is black with a white pickguard, has a fender bridge cover and bassline p/ups. Can anyone tell me what the thin rectangular thing that is above and to the right of the strings? My friend has no clue (not a musician) I see some modified ones with that part, but I've never seen a new reissue with it on there. Thanks.

Very nice, love this design, I'm not so tall so short scales rock as far as I'm concerned.

Where's the Musicmaster forum? :D

Great looking Mustang there renonovado. I liked the stripped down look and we can see that they were using different woods put together there hence the solid colors. Actually all the Musicmasters were using different woods and that is why you never saw a 'natural finish'. I guess some of the Mustang bodies eventually fell into that production as well. No matter what the Mustangs and Musicmasters consistently had a nice even response all up and down the fretboard which cannot be said of the J's and P's. 7 out of 10 had a dead spot somewhere.

Hey renonovado is that a P bass pickup cover u have over the bridge? I imagine it is for muting the strings with some foam, correct? I think I may do that to mine also... it looks pretty slick!!!! I really like the stripped look also!!!

A few years ago I startted having tendon problems when I played a long-scale bass but a 30" bass seems to make all the difference. Since then I've bought a Mustang bass, a custom shop Warwick Corvette fretless with a 30" scale and a custom shop Bass VI. Here's my trusty Mustang bass:
