Orthopaedic problems have sentanced me to short-scale basses and I own several. The VI holds its own both as a bass and a baritone. Through a good bass amp it sounds a lot like a Jazz bass to my ear. If I use a pick and add a bit of reverb it sounds more guitar-like, sort of a spaghetti-western sound. When I'm using it as a baritone iIt helps to use my Boss FDR-1 pedal both to add some reverb and also to warm up the sound slightly and take the edge off of it. If not, it ends up sounding like Stanley Clarke's bass. :)
