I like the concept and the looks. Can't wait to try one in person.

Me too! I wonder how loud it will be acoustically? Also, I just wrote Fender asking what they were planning to do concerning a case for this instrument. I'll reply back once I hear something from them.

Looks like it'd be a great match to Fender's Sonoran SCE from their California series.

I own one. It's great. I use it all the time around the house & I've even played it live at a coffee shop gig. The neck is fast & easy to play. The tone is full. There's even a built in tuner! It's a great looking instrument & looks really cool on a guitar stand next to my 25 year old Fender Catalina Acoustic & my wife's vintage San Miguel acoustic.

I've noticed that bass recently. Really nice looking. That would be a nice addition and really useful to have. I 've played on one of those BG29 basses that Fender used to make in a music store years ago and I couldn't put it down. Unfortunately, I was too broke to buy it. Music stores are really a bad place to go when you have G.A.S. and not enough cash. Maybe there is a country or blues song in that. Heh.

I have a BG29, '97, bought it new. I like it. Gotta get the neck adjusted one of these days.

I had an AXL copy of the BG29, but just didn't use it enough so sold it about a year ago.

That Malibu is pretty sharp looking, just not into long scale basses.

The only acoustic bass I ever had was a Kramer from probably the late '80s. I got it in the early '90s, but sold it later for some reason. I used to do foolish stuff like that with gear. would like to get this one eventually. I could really use it.

Well I bought the Kingman Bass. The neck plays as fast as my Precision. It's the most attractive accoustic/electric bass I've seen. It is also perhaps the lowest in acoustic volume I've tested. But with the exception of perhaps the Tacoma Thunderchief bass, (what's the story/plans anyway with Fender and Tacoma?), you are really going to have to amplify any acoustic electric bass to be heard in a jam with more that one guitar player. My musical colleagues love the look and my drummer loves the stringy-woody sound of it amplified.
Beware, the first one I got I sent back to Musicians Friend because the pickup was way weak when compared side-by-side to a second one I ordered, even with the same fresh battery. What was really strange was the one with the weak pickup was actually just a wee bit louder acoustically. Interestingly, the advertising sticker from the factory on the pick guard of the acoustically louder guitar mentioned "scalloped bracing" as one of the instruments attributes. This feature was not among those listed on the less acoustically loud bass that I ended up keeping. But I did use a mirror to look inside both guitars and found that both did have scalloped bracing, albeit oh so very, very slight.
Well anyway, I'm still waiting for the hardshell Fender case I ordered from Guitar Center to come in. I'll report back later.

Hey folks... can you believe it... I am still waiting for the Fender Kingman bass case I ordered through Guitar Center in Towson, MD. The order was placed Oct. 16, 2009... it's now December 30! The store said it was a computer glitch at Fender. Hmmm, I say come on Guitar Center, come on Fender!

Wow. Maybe Fender ordered them from a case manufacturer and they haven't received them yet. Have you heard or read of anyone having a Kingman Bass case - some guy on a forum somewhere, etc.? If not, that's probably the deal. It's a new instrument and I'm guessing it takes a unique case and that it won't fit in Fender's other acoustic bass cases.

I'd call Fender customer service and explain the situation if I were you. You at least deserve a straight answer.

Thanks for your review of the bass, too. I was disappointed to hear that it's acoustically quiet. I've owned an ABG before so this is no suprise but was hoping to read reviews saying "it's a cannon!" as the Martin guys like to say. Oh, well...

I still find the Jazz Bass nut width and 4-on-a-side traditional Fender headstock very appealing. If I could justify buying an ABG, this one would be at the top of the list. I think it would be a good collector item too - not that it will necessarily appreciate in value but I think it would be very cool to own one and it would look great hanging on the wall with a bunch of other Fenders.

I hope your case arrives soon.
