Are there any big advantages having a fretless. Is it more accoustic,is it more like an upright. Your input is greatly appreciated. I have a chance on one and have to make up my mind fast. Thanks

'Bought a Standard Jazz fretless in '00 on a half-whim, just to have one. If memory serves, it was about $400 back then, with a case. Very nicely made and so completely and utterly cool, it's just plain stupid.

It is a keeper. Gobs and gobs of fun to play, 'Refer to it as The Trombone, because you just slide from note to note. Try one a few times. Do Lou Reed's "Take a Walk On the Wild Side," "Moondance" and "Desifinado" ("slightly out of tune") on one and look at the insipid grin on your face in the nearest mirror.

'Do not play it out; not precise enough on fingerings.
