I don't know if anybody is a fan of the Mark Hoppus "Jazz Bass", but I've always loved the sweet liquid tone he gets with that thing through a classic Ampeg. Anyway, for the last few years he's been playing some modified ones, which I hadn't noticed until this week. Check out Blink 182's two performances on the Tonight Show last week. Mark plays his signature model, but the pickup is actually reflected up so that the side for the higher strings is much closer to the neck resulting in a smoother bassier tone, which really helps since he always plays with a pick. This new bass doesn't have a pickguard either, but rather some design on the front.

I'm writing all this because I think the new pickup arrangement is very interesting. Fender should revamp their artist model to this current generation of Hoppus bass because it is more unique and I believe it would be much more appealing to buyers with its better look and sound. Mark is sounding better than ever, and I credit the new bass setup.
