Hello all!

I'm hoping someone can clarify how the internal battery is tapped. My understanding is that having a cord plugged in will turn on the juice. Is this regardless of whether or not the pickups are in active or passive mode?

I think the active pickups need power.
Tunemybass.com: "Active pickups use a pre-amplifier, or pre-amp. The pre-amp is powered by a 9-volt battery (or sometimes 2 – an 18-volt system). The pre-amp allows you to both cut and boost frequencies. This gives you more control over the tone coming out of your bass. How much control you have will depend on the features of the pre-amp. Some pre-amps simply have a bass and treble control while others have mid-range controls and other extras."

Right, and I believe the 9v is tapped by when the instrument cable. I just wonder if the 9v is tapped even if the pickups are set for passive and the cable is plugged in.

I believe the battery does get tapped when there is a cord plugged into the bass regardless of whether the pre amp is active or passive, when in doubt play it safe. Keep it unplugged when you're not playing it!
