You sound like you're complaining. If you consider them cheap to buy then grab one while you can.

Musimaster basses have great necks and I really like the old small tulip tuners on the older models. They have a guitar pickup ( a Strat pickup under the cover) but they still have a great sound.

I have a 1971 Musicmaster bass in dakota red. It is very cool.

If you can find one for cheap, let me know where and how much. I have a '78 and absolutely love it. I'd take another in a second if they were actually cheap!!

Short scale basses aren't exactly the bass of choice for most bassists. Hence lower demand.

That's probably because most bassists must be taller than the chart-topping 5'4" that I am, big basses don't exactly make me look taller. And they're uncomfortable, long reach, etc.

I'm in the market for a 2nd elec bass so I'm anxious to hear about where you can get them cheap... 8)

The quality is pretty good IMO, mine was recovered from a loft in a barn after who knows how many years.....the paint and some other parts had to be replaced from neglect but overall it held up well and after approx $250 investment I have had a dependable workhorse for 15+ years that I play all the time.

The only time a Fender bass is "cheap" is when the seller doesn't know what they have or just wants to get rid of the bass.

Musicmaster's may be considered less expensive because I would expect to pay more for a long scale Fender bass like a Precision or Jazz Bass.

I was just watching a Squier Musicmaster on Evil-bay, auction ended at $210 and didn't hit the reserve. That's not too cheap for a Squier I'd guess.

My budget is pretty small so that puts genuine Musicmaster out of my reach for now.

Don't forget your local music stores and Craigslist.
The best deals are found locally, IMHO.

That's how I got my Musicmaster bass. I just walked in to a store and there it was- a little Dakota red beauty sitting on a stand.
A fresh trade in just waiting for me or another Fender freak to come by and snatch it up.
