Here's a few. If you are used to the active sound of a MM, you should try the American Deluxe Precision Bass Guitar. Also the Aerodyne Jazz sounds good to me.

Me? I like the first generation P-bass best. I have an active bass but I hardly ever play it.

I wish Wilbur's bass would show up. Folks keep let's keep a look out for it!

Wilbur if you've got a serial or pics you should post them both so we can watch for it to pop up!

I have a Fender Aerodyne P bass which I love.

But my other bass is a Hofner 500/1 v63, the "Beatle bass". It is very light and easy to play. It's a nice alternative to the P-bass.

Basses I would like to have:

- Hofner 5000/1 Deluxe - the fancy Beatle bass.

- Rickenbacker 4003

- Gretsch Thunder Jet

All three of these are beautiful, well crafted (an expensive) instruments.

I have these, and the one that comes out of the case first is the 59 custom shop P. Here is a pic http://i611.photobucket.com/albums/tt19 ... ons001.jpg

I picked up a G&L SB-2 a few months back. Absolutely love this bass and tone.

Not crazy about black and rosewood though.

For the last 15 years I've been a diehard, one bass only player, with my '78 Musicmaster. But last winter I had one gig where an issue with the neck left my E string buzzing terrible, hard to adapt with 25% of your strings unplayable.

As cheap as I am, I bought a SX Jazz Bass short scale, and I've really grown to like it. It stays in tune, nice maple, very solid. For the price and as a back up bass I'd say they're worth looking into. Unless you find one on Ebay the only place I know that sells them is Rondo Music. They have a pretty good variety of stuff available too, long and short scale.

If you can dig the "mud" tones of an EB3 SG Bass, I'd recommend one of those. There are 3 choices, when it comes to this model, being Gibson (of course), Epiphone Elitist (30" scale, like the Gibson) and Epiphone (34" scale, and is what I've got). If I'm not mistaken, all but the Gibson are currently out of production.

Yeah, It is a sweet bass. I love the aggressive tone that I get from it. Definately a P-bass on steriods! Cuts thru the mix very well. My only complaint is the neck size, it just feels too small in my large-ass hands.

So the neck on the G&L is smaller than the PBass?

It is a 1.5" neck. Not as chunky. I guess that I am so use to playing a P-bass that my hands clutz around on something else. Actually the G&L is great for higher fret, 10 - 15, work IMO. But most of my playing is the 2-9 range and that's where I feel best on the P-bass. Do I make sense?

When I'm not playing my Jag or my Fretless Jazz, I'm a Schecter fan...just replaced my Stiletto Deluxe 5 with the Studio 5; Neck-thru body, maple and bubinga with a couple EMGs...great bang for the buck!
