Try to slap the Geddy Lee J-Bass.....this is the ONE, besides ofcourse the real 70's Jazz Basses and the Re-issues. or u can even pickup any J-bass as long as it's an Ash body and a Maple fingerboard is awlays a plus.

In my opinion, both the Precision and Jazz are good for slapping, they just have different sound qualities when slapped.

I wonder how you went after all these months deciding on a Jazz or Precision.

Ok I confess, I am biased towards my Precision but it is not standard and so to get full appreciation of what I am saying, I will explain. Yes I have committed sacrilege here as I have a 1969 Fender Precision with a "L" Series neck and I have EMG active Precision/Jazz pickup combination on this guitar. I have played it for over 36 years starting with just Precision pickup then went to Mighty Mites with jazz bridge pick up added in 1977 and the EMGs came along in 2002. I have played in all sorts of bands, recordings styles and this bass guitar just does it all. Slapping is no issue . Use Elixer medium bass long wound. I have a good string setting which allows me to slap with punch due to high gain and tone from the active EMG kit on this guitar. A touch of compression and away you go. If nothing else I have learnt, the ration is 70% feel and finger strength, 30% technology, in my opinion. Hope you had success.

Well about a month ago I had made my decision. I went down to my local guitar store and put an American Standerd Jazz Bass on layaway. I should be getting it sometime soon, hopefully before Christmas.
