what is the interest of the fellow bassplayers for a possible Coronado series (I and II) reissue? My own take is that I would just love to buy a Coronado, even in a Squier series. I would like to just find a 34" scale, versus the original short scale; maybe just moving the bridge back the needed length or something like that: I would NOT touch the pickups placement. Some revamped electronics, flatter radius, larger fretboard, 19 mm standard spacing, overall better functionality in a very faithful old fashion look.

I am maybe personally the SICKEST fan for Coronados; for sure I would be the first one that would ever buy a Coronado here in Italy: guaranteed!!! Why both Gibson and Fender don't simply think to reissue both the EB2(D) and the Coronado series (modern functionality in a retrò vibe) is beyond anybody's understanding!!! I also started my own... campaign (!!!) and therefore threads about this topic on both the italian Megabass forum and on the Talkbass (here's a couple):

http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=472137 (Poll result: 70% would like to have the Coronado reissued!)
http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=520919 (Poll result: 81% would like to have the Gibson EB2 reissued!)
http://forum.megabass.it/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=41287 (Poll result: 100% would like to have the Gibson EB2 reissued!) Ok: I could not include the "No" option in the poll!!! ;-) Anyway, the bottom line is that there are high expectations for good semi-hollow basses!

A lot of bassplayers (and supposedly guitar players, too) would just love the reissue of semi-hollow "historical" models. Geez: they reissue anything at anytime on any given year and they don't yet come out with the Coronados!!! Please, do it!!!

I would definitely buy AT LEAST:
1)a fretted IV
2)a fretless IV
3)a fretted V

My only suggestion as said above would be of possibly having the 34" scale for the 4 strings basses (maybe even 35" for a possible 5 strings), but I would be just happy with the standard design as well, in the end!!!

P.S.: tell me you would not sell... your wife for one of these things here:

http://www.gospel.bo.it/albums/userpics/10524/EB2D_BODY.JPG

Bottom line: I think (I know!) there DEFINITELY IS a consistent market slice for the semi-hollow instruments! Fender, please wake up: you have some potential, so beautiful, real "jewels" to be reissued and quickly sold ON THE MARKET, to be fully enjoyed by the musicians around the whole world! It's just so bad if you don't invest on that!!!

P.S.: I added in the poll also the possibility to choice the 35" scale for the V strings but that was cut by the system!

I remember the Coronado basses and they were not that popular when they were in production so that is probably why there has been no reissue, but Who knows? Maybe Fender could put together a reissue version even if it was a Squire model.

I would be interested in trying one and maybe buying if the price was right and the sounds were useable.

The original Wildwood Coronado Basses and guitars were supposedly made from trees that were injected with some sort of dye to color the wood while the tree was growing. I am not sure that I believe that story.

As far as Gibson reissung the EB-2, if they do you can expect that bass to be priced in excess of $4K and I don't know if ther is enough of a market to support either instrument.

Ibanez makes a hollow body bass that appears to be very nice for the price. Have you tried one of their basses?

I realize that this is a Fender site but I have an idea for you. Try an Epiphone Allen Woody Sinature. That is one sweet sounding semi-hollow for not a lot of cash!

about Gibson, they have the choice of using Epiphone, Korean made excellent products: just look at the Casady! For the rest, ok: I do have a fabulous Stylist B1 (Dean) that I love so much; obvioulsy there are a lot of other beautiful hollowbody axes around, but having a Coronado replica or an EB2D is having "a piece of dream" in your hands!!!

It seems that every major brand, lately, is sort of "waking up" about this and even Warwick has now the Star Bass II in both 4 and 5 strings version!!!!

:-) V.

P.S.: Please, spend 10 seconds of your time and... vote!

How much would you pay for a Coronado Bass?

I ask because I wonder if it wouldn't be cheaper just to buy a vintage
Coronado bass? They have to be out there.

>how much would you pay?

Well, first possibility: it will be reissued as a Squier, made in Korea or similar, Fender knows where it is more convenient for them.

I imagine one single model "Coronado II" (two pickups) with the body absolutely faithful to the original shape, having the characteristic Fender "black" headstock, the long "f" holes, the short "horns" after the cutouts, only choice of two or max three colors and therefore a reasonable price that would range around 350/450 euro (450/550 usd): I paid my Dean Stylist B1 350 euro brand new in the shop and, believe me, it is a full acoustic electrified bass that is very well built and performing. Maybe the Coronado reissue would benefit from a central solid wooden block inserted to defeat the feedback and from the 34" scale length.

http://xoomer.alice.it/charlie_min2003/Dean_Stylist_B1_Page.htm

Second possibility: it is going to be reissued as a MIM Fender instead. Then I would expect some better small details (better tuners? Bindings all over? Pearloid block inlays?) a higher price (500/700 euro, 600/800 usd) but more color options, matching headstock, maybe a fretless version available as well and a choice of two models: with two pickups or with only one pickup, but placed this time in the "sweet spot", near the bridge (Sting Ray style). In either ways it would be an absolutely... killer axe!!!

Obviously you can buy one of the very rare Coronados out there that surface each now and then on the E-Bay, but:

1) you'll never know what are you REALLY spending your money on (it could actually be the best bass or a total crap!)
2) you don't know WHEN one is coming. In addition, the end sale price is normally very high.
3) an old axe is in any case going to behave as an... old Coronado was used to behave! That would be delivering maybe a "so and so" performance. Maybe not or... maybe yes!
4) I would definitely use the Coronado reissue as my main player, therefore I would really like modern features in a retrò, beautiful package: working electronics, 34" scale, total length as a Jazz bass.

Wonderful Antigua:

Marvelous, almost mint, sunburst one pickup axe from deep past... now tell me you don't like that!!!

Note: if applicable, maybe we'd have an appealing (drool, drool!) 5 strings version. That for me would just mean... heaven!!!

How about a Bantam Bass Amp reissue with that wacky Yamaha rectangular styrofoam speaker to go along with your Coronado? As long as we are bringing back turkeys....why not go whole hog?

Isn't that a short scale bass?
