So I have really been digging the looks of the Jag bass lately. So in a nutshell, what kind of tones can you gat on that thing that the others can't do? Are the switches and buttons really worth it or are they more of a gimmick? Thanks.

You can get a great variety of tones from the Jag. I've had mine about 4 or 5 months, and I'm always flipping switches and turning knobs to find new tones.
You can get a nice Jazz tone, or a Precision thump. I've also found a nice Stingray-like tone as well. Then you switch on active mode, and the tone tweaking possibilities seem endless.

The switches aren't a gimmick...they make it quick and easy to dial in all the very different tones this thing can produce. I'd recommend going to Guitar Center or your favorite local shop and playing one for 15 minutes or so...you'll want to take it home. IMO, this is one of the coolest and most versatile instruments Fender makes.

That's really what I wanted to hear! I was hoping it sounded as cool as it looks. I already have an Oly white jazz so I was thinking about the red with the matching head. The blocks really set it off and even though the body is a bit different, it still looks like a Fender. Thanks!

Bring or borrow a strap from the store and play it standing up.

The body shape is just different enough from a Jazz or Precision that it hangs a little differently and the reach to the neck is a little different.

This isn't a huge deal and it probably won't bother you at all, but if you've been gigging your Jazz Bass every night with your eyes closed for the last 20 years, it's enough of a difference to know about before you hand over your hard-earned cash.

I've had my Jag since mid-'08. If you're a Jazz Bass player looking for some more tone options with the thinner neck feel and ability to keep a Jazz tone, then this is the bass for you.

Prior to buying the Jaguar I was using a Standard Jazz Bass as my main bass, but it feels so cheap now compared to my Jaguar. For the price, you can't beat it.
