Maple all the way. To me rosewood is a Gibson look, not a Fender look.

I have one maple board (P-bass) and four rosewood, two each Fender & Ibanez. I'm going to add another maple board next. I think the rosewood sounds smoother, but the maple has more sizzle and snap to it. The maple boards do discolor some after years of use...which looks cool! Sort of says you are experienced and so is your bass!

I played a Fender P with a soild maple neck the other night. Sounded fine, looked great and felt okay, but was somehow too functional for me. I also didn't like the more rounded P neck -- too much wood for my fat hands to get around.

I personally prefer the appearance of maple, but both maple and rosewood each have their advantages.

I prefer maple, purely for aesthetic reasons. I'm one of those that believe that the type of wood that a fretboard is made of has little, if any, effect on tone. YMMV.

Rosewood, but read below for more of my thoughts...

Visually - both can be just as beautiful. I like dark almost orange colored finish for maple. Almost black color for rosewood fboards.
Soundwise- I never noticed. But I am sure there is a difference.
Wear - the maple looks so cool when it is worn. The rosewood, you can't really tell when it is worn.
