In my opinion,Rosewood is pretty good, Maple is a little better but Ebony is fantastic!

I like both maple and rosewood. I would like a nice maple necked Precision to go along with my 72 Jazz bass.
Maple adds a bit of snap to the tone of a bass. I also like stable necks that can take a lot of abuse and I think that maple necks are more stable.

I'm sure someone disagrees, but Se la vie!

I think you are trying to say that "Geddy uses it" correct?

To be honest, I don't think I've ever seen a bass guitar with a maple fingerboard, let alone ever having tried one. In my guitar collection, I have a fairly good mix of rosewood and maple fingerboards, and although I can actually hear the tonal differences, I don't really pay attention and just play. Who knows, maybe one of these days I'll come across an electric bass with a maple fingerboard, it absolutely blows me away, and I happen to have enough money to buy it?

All my guitars have rosewood or ebony, but my bass has a maple fingerboard.
I prefer rosewood or ebony, as I like to feel the wood.
But with the big bass strings, I don't notice the maple under them.

Don't much care (for guitar, tho ebony is positvely sensual).

That said, 'do not own a bass with a maple board.

Of course after my reply that I'd never seen a bass guitar with a maple fingerboard, I start seeing them everywhere. This caused me to think of my original statement, and realize that ooohhh...I have seen bass guitars with maple fingerboards before! I just wasn't paying attention. How embarrassing... :P

I didn't really believe that you had not seen a bass with a maple fingerboard. I could understand if you had not played one, but It doesn't really matter anyway.

The strings you are using make a bigger difference in the tone. Re- fretting is easier on a rosewood fingerboard because there is no finish to contend with.

Well for Bass rosewood is a diferent tonenality, Maple is more denser wood fiber ... but its a mater of feel too .... I perfer depending if I am doing a studio takes or playing live clubs performances ... Ebony is even more denser .... If you not playing crazy loud try a rosewood as maple rocks for live stuff ... its a "You say Potato I say Patato question"
