I'm going to learn bass, almost from scratch. So, as i'm not a 'pro', I think that to start I could buy the Fender Squier Bass Pack. What do you think about it?
Is it good for a begginer like me? :D
Thank you in advance...

P.S. - Here it is:

Certainly is better than what I learnt on, squier guitars are very acceptable these days. A fine set up for learning on :)

Just make sure you try out a jazz bass and a p bass - they're two very different beasts and you'll probably find yourself preferring one or t'other. My sister's bass is a p bass copy and she cant get her fingers around the neck too easily so she much prefers my MIA Jazz bass which has a much thinner neck - though she hardly gets to play it (I'm very protective of my baby! hehe).

Good luck with it and never give up :)

^ +1...go to a local shop if you can and try a P and a J out. One will most likely let you know right away where you belong. There's nothing wrong with a Squier for just starting out, especially if you're young and may end up dropping the instrument. There's a whole forum at the bottom of the index page about Squier Basses, you might get a better idea down there.

A P bass is the common term for a Fender 'Precision Bass' - the first ever production electric bass. Jazz Basses were introduced later on in the 1960s to compete with the Rickenbacker 4003.

The main differences are:
The neck.
The pickups.
The body shape.

A P-bass has a thick, wide neck which a lot of players like and a lot don't. The Jazz Bass has a much slimmer neck - which I personally prefer as I have short fingers (Which is why you should try out a bass before you buy - you don't know which one you'll really like until you try them).

The Pickup on a Precision is a single coil 'split pickup' which gives a lovely fat tone which can be heard on so many famous Motown/Soul/R'n'B records. However they can pack a hell of a punch too which is why you see them in punk bands a fair bit. Jazz basses are a lot more versatile - they have two single coils pickups, one at the bridge and one at the neck. The neck pickup gives a fat, rounded tone much like that of a P-Bass and the bridge pickup gives you a punchy tone. You can mix the various sounds together with the volume and tone knobs. However both basses have their own sounds so, again, play both and find what suits you best.

A P bass body is not symmetrical but it's a lot less 'curvy' than the Jazz bass and is slightly larger too.

Hi,
I bought the Fender P bass in March of 07. I got the same package that you showed in the picture, except mine is beautiful dark blue. I am a beginner/self-learner "wanna-be" 42 yr old girl/mom musician. I play in our praise band in our small church. For my first bass, I just love it!! I'm not sure when or if I will upgrade. I did buy a refurbished Behringer 90 watt amp for playing at church just for a little more punch and clarity. I do keep the small amp for practicing at home so my hubby doesn't get mad, it is loud enough for home, You can always get a larger amp later if you want to upgrade. People at church love the sound for what I spent, so I'm happy for now. Sure I would love more sound equipment, but this is great for now being a non-paid "wanna-be" musician. I did get a little bored, so I went and bought an electric/acoustic for having a little more fun. Though I don't know much about other bass guitars, I do not feel that I spent my money unwisely. I am very happy with my bass and I play it all the time. I'm going to teach my son and my hubby to play bass too and they will use it also

For a beginner (sorta like me), the starter pack has probably the best stuff for someone at that level. Once you get used to the bass, you'll start to want differents sounds, and you'll develop a style. But until you know what you want out of your bass and yourself, just buy it.

If you want a bass that is more playable, like the Jazz bass, and you're willing to work some, try to find a used Bronco (new, it cost as much as the pack) and an amp. I bought one, and it's perfect for me since I'm pretty small.

Oh, and don't think just 'cuz there's a Jazz bass that the P bass isn't good for jazz. My alternate in our school's jazz band uses one a bass from the pack and, even though it doesn't have that jazz feel, it still keeps the beat as well as any other bass.
