You can email consumer relations in the support section. A lot of unanswered questions on this forum because most of it is on this site, it is a Fender site. Try this: http://www.fender.com/support/contact_f ... ations.php

Fender should be able to help you with the answer.

Guys,

Can anyone confirm if the new wave of Jags are MIM or CIJ?. I'm kind of confused I booked mine on sale for $599. but I read somewhere that the 2009 models are going to be MIM. If anyone knows please confirm so I can cancel my order on time, I dont want a MIM.

Not being judgemental, just curious, Why not?

In my experience with different Fender Basses, the standards on the MIM instruments are not as higher as the MIA or CIJ. MIM basses sometimes have inconsistencies on the position of the bridge; also the woods are not the same. I'm just based on my experience, MIM instruments are not good as the other ones otherwise price will be the same, don’t you?

Anyways I didn’t buy it, MF and GC told me that they were MIM so I canceled my order. I bought an American JB and then I realize that both stores where pissing out of the can, they are still MIJ. I spend the money on another bass, no regrets at all, but I still dream with a Jaguar.

I just got my Hot Rod Red Jag Bass, $599 from GC/MF. To me it looked like a returned item because it was not packaged properly for one thing. Mine says made in Japan. The body had scuff marks on the very edge, probably from sloshing around in the box due to missing foam blocks. I plugged it in and the hum was very loud and unbearable. I flipped the active switch on and nothing, the battery was dead. No problem they usually put cheap battery's in anyway. Come to find out the bridge ground was attached to the input jack and the battery ground was attached to the tone pot which is backwards. The jack is supposed to be the switch for the battery power. To quiet this thing down I Star Grounded the whole bass, re-shielded all the body cavities w/copper tape, potted and shielded the Pups. Search "Noisy Jag" and you'll find all the fixes. The battery box itself has a problem also, you have to wiggle it until the static goes away.

The fret ends where not filed properly, very sharp. How this product made it through QC is a mystery to me. Luckily I know how to work on guitars, but if you don't good luck.

The finish on the neck and body are top notch and the Bass looks awesome. The bridge, tuners are cheap and flimsy. The pups sound ok, some say there MIM, the specs say Vintage J-Bass, whatever that means.

After fixing it I have to say it is really quiet and sounds pretty good. The neck plays nice and is buzz free aside from having to dress the fret ends.
From what I've read some are perfect and some aren't. Hopefully you got a good one. I have a MIA J-Bass and a MIA VG Strat and they both use high quality components. The craftsmanship on them is outstanding. I would highly recommend MIA Fender if you just want to tune and play. I've seen MIM and MIJ and there is little difference IMO.

Indeed, it is a fact that Jag Basses need to be shielded.

the jaguar plays nice right out of the box..i lowered a few strings very minor movements...sounds good at home.....i took it to a rehearsal without a drummer still a little loud in the band setting sound level...i had no type of buzz at all coming from the bass none what so ever ....i have the neck pick up off...bridge pick up on.......pick up series out.........so, im running it with only the bridge pick up on and the active switch on as i dial in the best sound that i like this way and ill roll off some treble from time to time depending on the song...i really dig it i feel a sort of warwick sound coming out of it very very nice growl....this is my experience so far!!!.....3tone very nice....i might upgrade the bridge to a bad $@! .....at first i though of maybe changing the tunning pegs but i kind of like them they are a little different compared to other bass's. ...i added strap locks on it ....the strap lock on the bottom looks like it got a slammed on the ground a little and peeled off a little bid of finish, the finish on it is very thin i noticed because of this exposure but im digging this bass!!!!!!!!! :D

:D My fingers are sore and my wife refers to it as ''the Other woman''.
I will upgrade to a BAD $@! II Leo Quan bridge, I will raise the action because i like to use my fingers on certain songs and a pick on others.
So far no humming or buzzing from the pick ups no matter what setting I set it on. The over all neck is smooth and easy.
I may swithch the pick ups down the road to noiseless Fender pickups or
Seymore Duncan Bass Lines Jazz Pickups. Its a new bass and I havent played in 5 years and I am now back in the game. I will post my comments each time I discover something new positive or negative. I play rather aggressively and I know a PBASS can handle that, but my fingers are shorter and I find a Jazz bass to be so much smoother and easier to play. My budget was tight and the Price of Jag was just right.

Don't know if this will help or not, but here is a link to a review about the Jag when they first came out: http://www.bassplayer.com/article/fende ... r-06/19712

I don't own a Jag but have owned a lot of Fenders. I tried one out and my overall impression was that the tuners were cheap. Some writers in the forum have mentioned a lack of sustain and blame the fingerboard. I'm not a scientist but logically speaking if you're playing a fretted instrument your main resonance is determined by the ends of the vibrating body (i.e., the string) If one end is the fret and the other end the bridge, that is a metal-to-metal contact. More sustain would come from a more substantial bridge.

You do get some vibration through the neck on a fretted instrument but I don't think it's that substantial. Try stuffing some foam under the strings where they cross over the nut into the headstock. I don't think you'll hear a marked difference in the amplified sound of the instrument. Again in my opinion, where the fingerboard/neck make a difference is in the quality of sound you hear i.e., bright vs dark.

Then by your logic, Gibson guitars must be superior instruments to Fenders or else Fenders would cost the same as Gibsons?
Aaah ...nah.

Clazzy Touché....

Finally I order my Jag at GC, I've heard that in the last models the knobs have changed can anyone confirm that?

Actually I found a weird picture on MF ... Look at it....

I registered just for this thread. =P

I decided to get a Jazz Bass a few months ago, and have been scouting Craigslist for the past few months waiting for a deal to come along - when at some point I discovered the Jaguar Bass existed. Man, what an awesome piece of musical engineering. It has it flaws, from what I read - but very very simple fixes (the hum issues). I love it's versatility and uniqueness all at the same time. So this week I decided I'm going to buy one - only to find out the only color available it seems is Hot Rod Red. EVERYWHERE is sold out of Sunburst. I'd even take a white. No offense to the HRR owners, I just completely hate bright red as a color.

So anyway... after contacting my local shop to see if they could match GC/MF's price and get me a Sunburst, they contacted Fender and supposedly the model is discontinued. I was heart broken, and decided I better get my $@! in gear and track one of these bad boys down before they start to climb in price. So after a bit of researching, I found numerous threads like this. It seems that the suspicions are true - the CIJ models are discontinued, and the Jaguar is being moved to Mexico production. What a disappointment.

I'm not on a mission to track down and purchase my Sunburst CIJ Jaguar Bass before it's too late!

I wish they would make a high class US-made version, I'd save up for that - but I'm not settling for MIM. Good luck to everyone else in the same boat - get your Jaguar Bass NOW before the quality drops for the same price point. If you want HRR you still have time, there are many available at online retailers. If you want 3TS, I'll see you on the battlefield.

Negative Buddy, certainly the only one available is the HRR but they are still CIJ, I send an email to Fender Consumer Relation department and they confirmed this. Indeed they confirmed that there are not plans on moving the production to Mexico.

Did they state why production has ceased and are claiming it to be a discontinued model? That's what Fender told my shop.

**edited post 5/20/10**

This is an e-mail response from "Ed" at Fender:

Quote:
Unfortunately we do not have a replacement for this model, and yes it was discontinued.

We have no plans currently for a replacement or to reintroduce the model in the near future.

It's all good though cause I found a sunburst model in *pristine* basically new condition with a hardcase and a set of strap locks for $650! Had it 2 days now, SO happy with it! Lots of mods coming it's way though. ^_^

Yeah, I've had my Jaguar for about 6 months now... and occasionally I like to go on GC.com to see how much they are still going for... looks like you can't find them anymore on MF, GC, or SA. If they are discontinuing these, I'm glad I got mine when I did.
