I'm brand new to this forum and i thank you now for your patience. I found this bass and i need information on the history of it. I found it at a garage sale for $60. It has a headstock shaped like a Fender and the body is like the Jazz bass. It has a small red stamp at the top on the headstock that says"New Gibson Electric". This threw me off, why would Gibson be providing electronic components for Fender.

I have searched the internet and posted on yahoo questions and my weblog and no one seems to be able to help. You guys seem to know an awful lot about fender so i figured i would give it a try.

No, that is not a Fender or a Gibson made bass. That is an import from a few decades ago. I would guess that was brought back by a GI as goofy knock-offs with decals that made no sense were very prevalent in places where the military had bases. Lots from Vietnam, the Philipines, etc. It is fun and kind of a conversation piece. I wouldn't bring it to an important gig!

Good luck.
