I'm gonna present myself first. My name is Yohann and I practiced bass for 5 years with a Yamaha RBX270 (Very nice bass). I stopped during a moment and I decided to start again bacause I felt a lack...
Ok, my presentation is done I can ask my question now...
The fact is I would like to buy a Fender but I don't know which one. And I think my budget would be around 900€ (1200$).
I know that I can see the list but I would like some opinions with some advantages and drawbacks.
I saw the Mustang that seems very cool but has a shorter scale I think (well, I never tried it, so it's hard to get an opinion).
So, the fact is I'm a bit lost with all this basses and I would like some help... :)

Welcome to the forums.

Is the price you stated for a bass only or is that bass and amp?
The best thing that you can do is go down to several local music stores and get your hands on every bass you can. It doesn't necessarily have to be a Fender. Play them all. Spend time with each one and get a feel for how the bass is. I suggest bringing your strap or borrowing one from the store and play the basses in your playing position. Don't rush the decision to buy the first one you like, wait till you have found a few that you like and then re-evaluate those basses. Every bass is different and every player is different, find "your" bass.

But if I had $1200, I would get a [censored].

Yes, the budget I think I can get is only for the bass. I already have the amp (That's a Behringer Ultrabass BX1200)
Yes, of course I'll try different basses but maybe I want a Fender 'cuz it seemed impossible for me to get one before. (Yeah, I know I'm exigeant...)
Thanks for your advices.

IMO you cannot go wrong with a Precision bass, especially the American Standards. The P-bass is the most recorded bass for a reason.

A new American Standard Precision is a great instrument as well as the Jazz bass too!

Do as zod wrote , better try different Fenders and buy the one that makes you feel comfortable !

I would go for a P-bass or a Jazz if you are willing to pay the cost of the guitar.

Since you have an adequate budget and know something about the bass, I would recommend a Fender Jazz Bass. :D

Always good advice here, you have all the information to make the best decision. My only thought is to play a bunch of basses before you decide as, no two guitars are the same.

GOOD LUCK!

$1200 will buy a very nice Fender bass in the USA. evern nicer if you shop for used Fenders, but we in the Us don't appreciate the markup that many of our European friends have to pay to get their Fenders.

I echo the others and agree that you should try as many Fender basses as you can to see which one fits your hands and your needs.

Good Luck

Also don't be afraid to go for a cheaper model, if the "reaches out and grabs ya" factor is there. I once bought a used MIM Stratocaster over a used US Stratocaster because the MIM reached out and grabbed me. The US was more...meh.
