Get a P-Bass if you want heavier bottom end.

Get a J-Bass if you want a thinner neck.

Those are the two reasons most people gravitate one way or the other.

I've been using mostly P-Basses of late because I'm doing more blues, but I use Jazz basses too. Can't really go wrong with either.

I think that's why I haven't put an answer in either one of your post regarding these 2 basses. I like both of them. I've never had a Fender P Bass. My power jazz bass special has both pups, p/j set up. Other than that I've always had basses with soapbar pups - VM excluded. The power jazz bass special has the Pbody and the J neck...best of both world. 8)

Possibly -- unless you don't like the thinner Jazz neck. I don't have extraordinarily large hands per se but it took me a while to get comfortable on a Jazz neck as I initially found it too thin and cramped feeling. I've since gotten used to it and play back and forth between my P and J basses, but for a while I didn't think I'd be able to play a J bass comfortably.

The neck on the '87 in not that thin compared to the Vintage Modified, which is a true Jazz Bass I guess. Also, I've had 5 stringers and 6 stringers, so the Fender 4 string necks are not that wide for me...and I have small hands.

Yeah playing any Fender 4 stringer, P or J, shouldn't be tough unless your hands are really small (or conversely really big I suppose).

That can be said with all 34" scale bass tho, unless your talking the width of the neck. Yamaha basses, except for the Sheehan model have pretty wide necks. Ibanez SR series have thin necks, but their BTKs are pretty wide, I think the BTKs are 35" tho not sure. I like the BTBs, 35" and I tuned to C# w/o any buzzing, then again 35" scale is great for tuning down, and no issues with the neck either.

I've never played a 35" neck. My Fenders are 34", my Ric's are about 33" and my viola bass is 31".

I have a BTB with a 35" neck. I like it and it's different.

I had it too, it was prolly one of the best crafmanship I've seen coming out of Korea - or anywhere for that matter. I wouldn't mind having a BTB Prestige next.

It's a nice bass and all, and it plays well, but I think it looks ugly now. However when I bought it, I thought it was so cool looking. It's funny how your ideas change.

It certainly doesn't have the classic look of the SR series, but I do like it, still...I want the Prestige tho, neck through, MIJ IIRC.
