I own a 74 Musicmaster bass. I'd like to replace the pickup; it's weak. Can anyone suggest a good replacement? It looks like a guitar pickup so I'd rather replace it with the same size PU instead of altering the pick guard.

Those stock pickups can be pretty weak, since they're just Strat 6 poles in there.

Here's a link to one from Seymour Duncan, I bought it, it fit the pickguard nicely BUT being a clutz I broke one of the small wires from the solder connection to the wraps. Can't tell you how it sounded.......when I restock the $$ I'll probably try again, the reviews on it were good.

I replaced a 6 pole in my Musicmaster with a 4 pole - because the six pole no longer worked.

The result was good. I eventually sold the Musicmaster Bass, but now wish I had kept it, but I had more problems with the Pots.

I just re-ordered the Seymour Duncan pickup again.

I'm excited to hear this thing in my Musicmaster, more info after it's all completed and working. 8)

Took it to the luthier last night, should be done in a day or two. Photos and updates to follow, can't wait to crank it through my rig!!

No, I'm really not a fan of the natural wood colors either. The brighter the better I say. My musicmaster is blue, I'll post a photo with the new pickup installed in it.

So I got my baby back with the new Seymour Dunc bass pickup put in. Let me say I wish I'd had this in there years ago, the output level and sound improvement is incredible.
