Have you guys tried www.guitardaterproject.org that might help date the actual build date on the bass. Good luck guys.

I tried that and the official Fender guide...both say '94-'95.

I played a Red Jag at guitar center, and its stamp said "Crafted in Japan", while mine says "Made in Japan". My only guesses would be that Fender recently made a change in their Japanese Serial #s, or they're using old stock/leftover parts. Doesn't really make much of a difference to me...I'm just curious. I still really like this bass.

I just played a used Geddy Lee at the local music store here and it says Made In Japan on the neck, I thought they were supposed to be CIJ now. Oh well.

Sorry for digging this one back up from the grave and/or beating a dead horse, but my curiosity is really getting me on this one.

I ordered my Jag in Sept. '08 through a local guitar shop (Rockin' Robin in Houston; if you've never been there, go) because they didn't have the Olympic White in stock. I was at the shop when the bass arrived and helped pull it out of both shipping boxes and unwrap/remove from the bag. The bass was obviously brand spankin' new.

I played a Jag at Guitar Center that had the "Crafted in Japan" stamp on the base of the neck. The stamp at the base of my neck says "Made in Japan" and the serial# is "T(XXXXXX)". I've already looked through the Fender dating guide, Guitar Dater Project, and everything else I could find through Google, and everything indicates that this is a '94-'95 bass. So this leads me to two questions:

1. Was this model even available back in '94-'95?
2. Did I get a NOS guitar (or maybe just neck?) that has been sitting in the back corner of a warehouse for 13-14 years?

Either way, I will still absolutely enjoy playing this bass. If you have one, get a Badass II Bridge...I just did, and it REALLY makes a difference. Thanks in advance for the help, and sorry for the really long post. Cheers!

go to Fender.com, products, select basses, select Jaguar, click on the picture of the Jaguar (sunburst, not the most flattering of the Jag colors) then down on the right click on specs (cool link, tells you everything on the bass, strings, bridge, type of case to use) 2nd from the bottom:

Introduced 1/2006 the plot thickens. :?

I have a Jaguar bass I bought in 2009. I love it. It was brand new at the time. Pick guard had plastic on it, I couldn't get that bad, new smell out of it for months. It says "Made in Japan" on the neck and has T plus six numbers as a serial. I think unless fender made every jaguar bass on the market in the 90's and just put them in some warehouse (not likely) there is just alternative system for dating Jaguar basses. I wish I knew it. Too bad we can't just ask fender through this site.

Here is a bit of interesting information from wikipedia. I know wikipedia is not always accurate but here is something it says:

Fender unveiled the Jaguar Bass at the 2006 annual NAMM show.[1] The Jaguar Bass was originally made available in the United States in Black and Hot Rod Red with a matching headstock. Although the Jaguar Bass was also manufactured in Olympic White and 3-color Sunburst, these finishes were only available in the Japanese domestic market. The full range of finish options was launched globally in 2008.
