Hi guys

As a big fan of the Duff man i got myself one of the first Signature basses in the UK. I've also had it signed by him.

However, i am in rehearsals with a new band and have found that the E string is really boomy compared to the rest? Ive raised the string from the pickup, lowered the pickup on that particular string. But to no avail...

Has anyone had this problem on a P/J setup? Or even something to do with the TBX circuit maybe?

If anyone wants to talk Duff im the guy. My rig is almost exact...

Fender 2007 Duff McKagan Signature Bass v- Pearl White
Fender Mid Eighties Jazz Bass Special - Black
Fender Classic 50s Precision Bass - Black

Gallien Krueger 700RBII
Gallien Krueger 410
Gallien Krueger 115

Phonic Power Conditioner
Samson UHF Synth 32 Wireless Systems x 2
Artec Wireless Switching System
Yamaha SPX90II Effects Unit
MXR M-80 Bass DI w/Distortion
Rotosound RS66LD Strings
Dunlop DD Strap
Baltazar Iron Cross Custom Leather Strap
Jim Dunlop 0.73 Yellow Picks
Dunlop Strap Locks
Piranha Neutrik Custom Shop Signal Leads

Soon to be getting an Aerodyne Jazz Bass

Welcome to the forum. I have a mid '80s Jazz Bass Special, except mine's the Power - which deletes the TBX but add the active pups. Also in black, and I've added EMGs on mine. I love it, my main bass. After 20 some basses in between, that's the only one I've kept from selling. I'm the original owner by the way.

You know, that bass before it was a Duff Mckagan sig, was an MIJ wasn't it, in the '80s? Now it's an MIM, weird. How is the quality on it, other than your issue with the E string - bring it back to the dealer if you bought new to have them fix it. I wouldn't tinker around too much with it.

Its fine. Most of the details are correct, although the neck is quite a bit chunkier, almost a p bass neck. I think the position of the controls is slightly wrong too. But hey, i'm a duff fan!

Ive modded my original 80s $@! one to be like Duffs one. New TBX pot, Black Tele Knobs, Seymour Duncan JTK-J2B Pickup, Dunlop Strap Locks etc. The tone on the $@! one is also a bit "Fatter" than the new one.

Ive seen him play many times, and he favors the black bass over the white they've released. For any of the younger fans seeing Duff play it must be a bit confusing really.

Hey, I just went to the music store today to look for a case, lo and behold, there was another Power Jazz Bass Spc like mine but dark red. Really nice, had a buzz on the A string. $399 before negotiations plus a case, like mine. I'm thinking of getting it. I would replace the bridge, maybe the pups, if I buy it.

Hey Dude

These are the (o'clock) settings for his GK800rb and 2001rb amps.

-14db OFF
Gain 11

Mid Scoop ON

High 11
High Mid 11
Low Mid 2
Low 2

Boost 11

Master 12

If your rig has a Mid Scoop option, make sure its on.

He uses 4x10s with VR, but used a mix of 4x10 and 1x15s in GNR. Any more Duff related questions just email me at chriswilliams666 [at] gmail [dot] com

The Power Jazz Bass Special is very similar to the standard Jazz Bass Special, but has 22 frets and active "ATE" electronics.

Many, but not all J-Bass Specials were made from poplar and alder. This 22-fret Power Active Jazz uses a solid mahogany body.

Did you've the active 22-fret "power" model or the "regular" 20-fret one? A couple of pictures might be helpful to identify your bass.
