Hi, I have a bass I am trying to sell, but to sell it I need to know what it is and what it's worth. It's a Fender HM Bass Made in the U.S.A. but I can't find that bass listed anywhere that gives any info on it.

I have pictures on photobucket:

Any opinions, advice or info is welcome.

Thanks in advance

Cool bass. Have you tried to date it here on the resource/support by inserting the serial #, if not try www.guitardaterproject.org

Good luck.

Some were MIA, some MIJ. Early '90s, not many made. Passive pups. Some 5 stringers avai. 5 way pup selector. Push/pull tone control. Volume. HM were short for Heartfield Model. Heartfield was a Japanese guitar co that Fender acquired.

HI, I looked up my serial number on that Guitar Dater Project and it says:

"Guitar Info
Your guitar was made at the
Corona Plant (Fender), USA
in the Year(s): 1990 - 1991

Fender: Corona
Corona factory was opened in 1985, Corona California, with major guitar production starting in 1987. With the addition of a custom shop in 1987 the plant currently employs about 700 workers. Apart from general and Custom Shop Fender instruments and amplifiers, it also encompasses Guild acoustic & electric guitars."

So now I know more about what it is, can any one tell me what it might be worth?

I'm gonna post a couple of pics of the amp and cases that go with it but I gotta locate the amp in the garage first... so many boxes, so little space :(

thanks for the help,
Nadrae

I have one just like it--USA 1990. It is in minty condition (bridge looks more black than in the photo--must be the flash).

It is an awesome bass when set up correctly and can punch through the mix for rock music. The pickups are loud nd sound great.

There was also a model made with active pickups.

If this bass is in really good condition, I would expect you can get $400 or more for it.

I remember seeing one of these in firecrackle in a shop in Maine years ago. I saw a 5 at Guitar Center in SF a couple of years ago. I thought it was a cool idea almost like the cool parts of a Strat on a bass. I also thought the HM stood for Heavy Metal. They used to advertise the HM Series in Guitar for the Practicing Musician with Richie Sambora standing in the foreground and the whole series of guitars and basses in the back with that particular model standing in the way back in the shadows. When I was younger I thought it would be cool to get one and put a Kahler Bass Trem on it and make it more like a Bass Strat.

Stay Brown,
Rev J

I think one issue Fender has in expanding out side the box is the Fender players/fan, just love the Jbass and the Pbass too much, anything different would be sacrilege. I for one would love to see different basses from Fender, other than the Jag or Mustang. But it boils down to money, and with out anyone buying it, Fender can't make it. Some of these basses were/are nice gear.

well for slap bass, I've got to say that a 5-string probably isnt ideal. the 5th string is useless in that style. if you try to slap on it, it just sounds awful and muddy. I'd look into a 4-string.
