I was looking for a new Fender Bass in the catalog when my attention was caught by the Aerodyne Series. I am very interested and want an opinion on how they differ from the regular Jazz and Precision basses and how they preform and any other details I left out.

It's a CIJ (crafted in Japan) bass. It's tapered body with some binding. Lightweight. P/J set up on the pickups. Only available in black for the Jbass, no pickguard, the Pbass comes with a few color choices, and mint pickguard. I played a Jbass one, sounded good. Craftmanship on it was great. All black hardware too. I've not played the Pbass on this, but it should sound the same. The JDM (Japan Domestic Market) Aerodyne Jbass comes with pickguard, and different colors too. Hope that helps.

Just got an Aerodyne PBass about two weeks ago. I really like it so far. Plays & sounds nice and the weight is less than my PBass Special (MIA). Only problem I seem to be having is finding a case for it. The Fender economy case (molded) in my opinion is a piece of crap & I can't afford a hardshell (Fender) just yet. By the way. The molded JBass case would'nt work with my Aerodyne either. Other than this I have really liked mine.

Since it is CIJ or MIJ be careful before buying upgrade parts, like pickguards, intended for MIM or MIA instruments. The Japanese stuff is completely different in shape, pickguards, pickups, electronics, etc. I'd pretty much leave it alone and make sure I really was 100% happy with how it looked, played and sounded before buying one. I've played both the J and P and they are among the best playing instruments made by any company. They are beautifully crafted and elegantly designed.

PowerJazzBass is right about there being Jazz Aerodynes for the Japanese market that are different! Sometimes these will show up on eBay.
