It's on the same page man, look down a bit, they talked about the Jag, the title says "Fender Jaguar Bass" http://fender.com/community/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4375

It's a discussion about all the Jag bass, with diagram, and people that own it.

I have a very nice looking sunburst Jag Bass.

It has to be the most attractive and the most useless bass in my small collection of 6 instruments.

I bought it out of Japan 2 years ago after being so impressed with my Geddy Lee, which comes from the same factory. I was also attracted to the tonal posibilities.

I was disappointed to find that the basic underlying tone was thin and lacked the sheer oomph and polish of the Geddy. In addition, the noise from the active config was absolutely shocking, frankly unacceptable. Despite the tonal possibilities, I couldn't actually find a good tone I liked. The low freqs seemed muddy whilst the treble reveals horrendous noise. On a gig, I found that I became quite easily lost in the mix. Another horrible feature is the inconsistent output across the strings.

The machine heads seemed imprecise also, really sloppy in fact.

I've fitted Lindy Fralin Jazz pickups which improved the tone, but seemed to upset the balance of the switching. The noise remains as bad as ever. It also pops much like the sound you get when you plug an instrument into a live amp. I wouldn't dream of recording with it.

Everything else is really nice, i.e. the neck, the style and the general quality of finish.

As such this bass has sat in it's case for most of it's time with me. I've not even changed the strings on it yet!

I've lost interest in this bass, I now have an '83 Squier JV P-Bass and an '84 Squier JV Jazz bass and these instruments are the best ever, period. Like. almost as good as 62 originals. (Not to be confused with later budget Squier models)

However, I believe that there are modifications one can make which can unleash the true potential of this instrument.Any suggestions??

Otherwise I have an as new 3 colour sunburst Jag for sale in a nice repro 60's hard case with Lindy fralin p'ups plus the originals. Anyone interested??

Sounds like it needs some proper sheilding done.

If you ask over on talk bass the experts there will be more than happy to share their tips/methods with you I am sure (after the first 4 or 5 obligatory 'use the search' comments )

:)

Actually I am considering a jag bass. I saw a band recently and the bass player had the hot rod red one with the painted red headstock, which I guess is a newer model. Really nice but I especially liked the way it sounded. But yeah.... it looks cool as all heck. I noticed that she had tape over the upper switches I guess to prevent accidently changing the settings..similar to what Curt Cobain used to do with his jag guitar so it must be a jag thing.

I am an amature guitar tech if you will as a hobby so I am sure I could fix your's up nicely. Problem is I am broke at the moment, otherwise would take up your offer and buy it from you.

I am new here. I have seen other posts where they suggest using the "search". Where is this "search" located..I see no bar or anything to use a search feature..or perhaps it is in front of my face and I am too hung over to find it...lol

Thanks in advance.

The Jag Bass is fantastic! Varietyof tone and control-fast Jazz Bass neck -lot's of tonal control. One of the very best that Fender offers. Just wish that it came in more colors.

I havent bought this bass (yet), but I'm planning on getting one shortly after christmas after it comes in.
I'm using it for a jazz band & a funk band along with a few pedals at my disposal.

I tried it out at a local guitar store and I really liked the sound of the vintage jazz pickups. It only has 20 frets, but I normally don't go past the 20th anyways...

The one that I played had some sick popping action and a slap sounded thick and hearty.

I can't wait to get it, hopefully you enjoy it as much (if not more) than I did
