hey boblisic, I went there and they have to long a stem. They are the style for p and j vintage basses, but not the ones with the Telecaster Bass headstock. Thanks for the response and the lead. If you ever get a chance to see the open tuners on an original Gibson EBO, they are the right length of tuner stem, but are stamped Gibson. Anyboby else have a suggestion?

The USA Bullets and the mid 60's Mustang basses had similar if not identical oval paddle style tuners. Similar tuners were also used on some Telecaster basses I think, but they were nickled not chromed. My 68 Telecaster bass had these oval tuners. Sometimes they are called paddle tuners, other times oval and I've even heard them referred to as butterbean tuners. They have a shorter tuner shaft and a smaller paddle than the clover shaped tuners used on Precisions and Jazzes of the day.

I've looked for years and never found a repro or current production issue. They pop up on eBay from time to time, like these here;

After lamenting passing on the same bass six prior, providence led it back to me. I can't stress how much I love the neck, and I've never liked a maple fretboard before. Here's my 1983 (neck date) USA Fender Bullet Bass Deluxe with his Jazz buddy:
