First time poster... be gentle!

I have been playing a mid-90's MIJ Precision Bass Lyte (s/n S034181) and have been trying to learn more about it. There are many P Lyte's out there, but this one is a bit atypical as it's got a pale yellow (perhaps faded white) finish, unlike the more common mahogany. Is there a place where I can find tech specs, etc., on this guitar? The Google has not been too friendly, so far...

Facts most appreciated!

This is probably your best bet for info: https://forums.fender.com/viewtopic.php?t=61943 Brother Dave, who occasionally pops in here (haven't seen him around in awhile, though) knows a lot about those. I have one of those in the collection that's actually my girlfriend's but other than I know it's from 1994 and I have a PDF file (which I think was from Brother Dave's website years ago) which has the parts numbers and tells you what the knobs do, I don't know a hell of a lot about them. He explained a good deal about them in that thread, but if he comes around again, maybe he has more info.

Thanks... and I think I've seen that post during my searches. I was hoping for some specifics, especially re: my particular bass (maybe there's a Fender db out there somewhere which has details for my s/n?). I'm also looking for tips re: reducing the noise from the bridge single-coil without doing a full replacement of pickup and/or electronics.

Thanks for the quick response!

There is the https://www.fender.com/product-registra ... ial-search page. And the result of your serial brings up two possibilities.
The "Precision Bass® “Lyte” (1989-1995), Rosewood Fingerboard, Frost White" seems more likely than the Geddy Lee model.
The original specs are here: https://forums.fender.com/viewtopic.php?t=45336
(And a warm Hi! to the specs provider, Mr. Rob S; in case you happen to be still visiting the forum.)

The aforementioned bass encyclopedia (Brother Dave) has the parts lists/diagrams on his web page: http://brotherdave.com/add_maint.htm

That's awesome! Yes it is indeed the frost-white Lyte!

Interesting... interesting detail, and waaaay more than I had before. I'd love to see info on what they used for the active electronics, i.e. a schematic!

Saw that linked, too...
I suppose it's safe to assume that the pickups are standard (non-active) pickups, given the age? I wonder if there's anybody who knows what the stock pickups were?

Thanks heaps!

Come to think about it, I remember seeing a white model like yours for sale on eBay a few years back. That was about the only time I've ever did. Usually, you might see one in that dark grayish finish, or whatever that is, if one's on the market, or a wood finish one. It's a pretty decent bass, although the one we have has needs some repair work. There's a short in the electronics. I did use it extensively for 10 years, though, and my girlfriend bought it new back in 1994 or maybe 1995. I didn't meet her until 2003, and I didn't have a bass for a long time, and she let me use hers.

The pickup part numbers are 028376 (Lead) and 028374 (Rhytm), and they are passive - the active department is the 028384 "Active Circyit ASSY" with its embellishments.
That info from http://www.brotherdave.com/schematics/p ... 9japan.pdf

For Japanese Fender products, any info beyond marketing materials is way difficult to find. Fender USA was more interested in products as a whole than in what the Japanese put in them.
(As an off topic side remark, the same seems to happen these days with non-US Fenders & Squiers.)

I purchased mine in Feb of 2014 off eBay... maybe the same one!?! I was the only bidder, so got a great deal.
