I WOULD BUY A 1968 or 1969 TELECASTER BASS REISSUE IN A NEW YORK MINUTE !!

Especially if it was the light yellow body with white pickguard like Carl Radle played. Sweet piece of machinery!

I owned a Telecaster bass I bought new as my first bass in 1968. It was the only new Fender Bass I could find that day. It was blonde with a black pickguard. Traded it for a Candy Apple Red Jazz in 71 or 72. Regretted it not long afterwards too. Back then NOBODY had two basses. I was 17 years old and dumb. The Jazz was pretty, but didn't have the tone I wanted. I messed up!

I am personally only interested in a Tele Bass RI if it has the single coil pup. I would for sure buy at least one. I never much liked the final Telecaster Bass version with the humbucker. Played like a Fender but sounded like a Gibson, only a tad brighter, but not much!

I bought the Fender 51 RI because it is really close to a Telecaster Bass. Actually I guess the Telecaster Bass was the first Reissue of the 51 P-bass. The tuners were different and the pickup had lighter colored fabric wrapping around the winding on the Tele. On the Telecaster the tuner paddles reminded me of butter beans.

As I recall that Jazz weighted a whole lot more than the Telecaster. And I've always felt that the Telecaster was the lightest Fender bass I've owned.

Like others on here I've tried to buy one of them on eBay but I'm not rich and that will probably never happen until I get my house paid off! By then I'll be too old! LOL
