I recently saw that Squier has put out a mid 70s Telebass reissue. Does anyone know if Fender plans on putting out an American made Fender version of this?

I received a message from Fender indicating that they do not have any plans for reissuing the Telebass. However, the rep said they would consider it based on interest. Out of curiosity, how many folk would buy a mid 1970's Telecaster bass if Fender decided to reissue one?

I'd love to get one...the two big items on my Fender Wishlist for next year is that they do an AVS 78' P and now that the 55' P has been retired the CS does a 72' Telecaster Bass Time Machine Series.

Though I must confess I'd love to see the 55' return, or more acurately an early 57' (SCPB) with the 56' tone circuit. (possibly a Bill Black Tribute Model...HINT!!! lol) What's up with that anyhow...us P guys are down to the 59' and the Pino for CS models? Both amazing instruments I'd love to own, but where's the love?!?

I have the Squier and would buy an us-made one if the neck specs are closer to the original. The Squier is a great bass for the low price, but they saved in wood for the neck and the whole neckshaping.

By they way: how did fender contribute to the development of the PU on the Squier? It is a good one..

Because it's Fender's spec. Squier uses Fender spec on everything, just not on the same level of the quality of it's material. It is a value arm of Fender to compete with lower level Ibanez, Yamaha, etc, with out cheapening the Fender name so to speak.

I do know the intention behind the whole Squier-Idea, but my question was something else:

Is the PU on the TB a modified copy of the original Humbucker used in the Telebasses or is it just a lookalike?

I think Fender uses the Squier-Brand for testing new ideas. If Fender is not going to do a real reissue, the SVMPB-TB is going to be a nice collectorsitem, even with a basswood-body.

Definitely consider it, if they had more than 20 frets, yeah I'm riding that horse again, and no, I don't want replacement necks.

Believe it or not, the original was developed by Seth Lover, the same fellow who helped design the Gibson humbucker.Fender hired him to assist them in the design of humbucker pickups for their Telcasters and Telecaster Basses in the early 70's.

I'd like to see Fender re-issue ALL their basses from 51 onward, but I'd particularly like to see the Coronado Bass, an affordable BassVI and the original Bass V (WITH all the chrome)...oh but if wishing could make it so...

My father has an EARLY 1968 Telecaster Bass with the maple capped neck, paddle tuners, large black logo, blonde nitro lacquer...if Fender would make a reissue of the early tele bass with those specs, I'd buy half a dozen of them- I'm not joking. It's the best bass I've ever played, period.
