A few months ago, after years of wanting and looking for one I came into ownership of a 2005 Fender Urge Bass II. Now the next part might make some people wince but...

As I play heavy rock and metal I would like to change the pickups to the EMG Geezer Butler set. I've contacted EMG and they said they could provide an additional Jazz pickup as the Geezer pickups are usually only available as a single Precision or PJ set.

I would also like to change the stock Fender pre-amp to a Darkglass Tone Capsule.
Here comes the little dilemma I have.

I would like to keep the stock pickup selection controls. Could this be done or does the pickup control come from the stock Fender Pre-amp?

I'm not very well versed in wiring diagrams so I thought I'd ask here. A relative of mine who is an electrical engineer is going to help me with the mods, if they can be done of course.

Here's an image of my Urge II. The listing said the colour is "Midnight Sapphire Metallic"

Thanks for your time and sorry to any purists who think what I am trying to do is sacrilege

I'm no wiring guru myself, but to get the topic rolling:

The Master Vol pot is an integrated part of the PCB, so you can't keep that if you replace the preamp. (Part number is 0054137000, in case you need it.)
Other pots are wired - but they're quite special, too. I have no idea how those would work with what you have in mind.
The selector switch seems quite regular.

I have no moral judgements on your planned mods. But it's worth considering
- the resale value, if that's any concern to you (save the original wiring harness for reverting back); and
- the planning and execution of those mods.
IMHO, you want something quite complicated, so if your 'electrical relative' doesn't know it all by-heart-easy-peasy-from-the-beginning-to-the-end, use a pro. Or get a full system where you only need to solder the ground wire, battery leads and the jack.

Thanks for your reply. I really appreciate it

I wasn't very clear in explaining the pickup selection, so I apologise for that. When I said I'd like to keep the stock pickup selection I meant that I would like to retain the ability to have all of the available pickup options this bass can do. If that means changing what some of the pots do or adding a pot then that will be ok too as I plan on changing the pickgaurd out for something else.

In regards to resale value it's a non issue for me as I will never part with this bass but I will keep all of the stock parts :D

OK, my bad - but the topic is rolling.

The original wiring, in case you don't have it, looks like this: Stu Hamm "Urge" Bass II 0191500 Service Diagram

I'm absolutely sure my skills aren't enough to figure how the new parts should go in, let alone what the end results would be. Wait for an expert to chime in.
