Hey, you got to do what you got to do. For example, I had to dump the Precision to get the Ibanez. Part of me felt bad for doing that, since it was a cool bass, but I really wasn't playing it, and the Ibanez wound up feeling a lot nicer, and it sounds good, too. Besides, you never know what comes down the road. You might wind up picking up another one, or whatever.

I'm thinking about going for a Fender Standard Jazz. Candy Apple Red, or Lake Placid Blue with a Maple Neck.

That's not going to happen. The money is going for the Super Bassman.

Yeah, those things aren't exactly dirt cheap.

The Super Bassman is probably the most expensive Bass head I've ever had. The Mesa Carbine 6 wasn't this expensive. But I think the Super Bassman has the best power, and all out full arena capable sounds. For in my small room here, I just throttle the volume back. At least while the wife, and daughter are in the house, and the NEO 115 is broken in. About a week to play it safe on a new speaker.

It does seem like a versatile rig, other than the typical weight of a tube head, which obviously wouldn't be so much of an issue with you, since you're not gigging with it. The one thing that I've read about the 100 watt version, which I think is interesting, especially for studio or low volume purposes, is it has a switch to go down to 25 watts, so you can really drive it at lower volumes. I guess the 300 watt one doesn't have that feature for whatever reason. I guess they've meant that to be a large room banger, that's why, or maybe the design of it is prohibitive to do that?

The Super Bassman is versatile more for larger rooms, or with the volume down. The 25 watts isn't really considered necessary for the Super Bassman. The 100T at 100 watts is a bit more suited for the studio, so the 25 watts setting is more useful.
There could also be an engineering reason why the Super Bassman may not scale down from 300 watts, to 25 watts. in the Super Bassman, almost everything is heftier. The rectifier for one, and there are six 6550 power tubes, two more than the 100T runs with. Or they just have the Super Bassman made for all power applications.

That's true, it does have different components for the power, so I'm sure that's a deciding factor. That, and it's intended purpose.

Intended purposes, and for crazies like me to play through.

Have you ever fully cranked one of those when you had it?

No, I've had one up about 3/4's. The problem sometimes is, the volume of the room is so small, the air doesn't have enough area to move. The air basically gets dampened, or muted.

The cab size also plays a factor into it, as well.

Yes it does. Anyway, I keeping the Ampeg head. It's a good tube head, why not hang on to it.

It's simple enough to set also.
