At MSG with Ron's Kustom 250 / 2-2X15 cabs. Late 1970. A Gibson EB-0 played through it.

Yeah, those 2 x 15" cabs were 8 ohms, so you could do that. I've used one of those with the 18" Celestion, when I had that, and the Orange head, in Boston. It was too much low end for my girlfriend to deal with, since it was aimed at her in the rehearsal room, so I had to just use the Kustom cab, instead. :P If I ever go there again, I'm going to try the Ampeg through it, just out of curiosity. I'm sure he still has it. I bet it will sound a hell of a lot better than the Orange did, because I have more EQ options, and the Ampeg just sounds better to me in the first place. Did you have a Kustom of your own, or just used that one?

I always wanted one, but never had the opportunity to acquire one. Ron had the JBL 15's in his cabs. God Almighty, they were incredible.

It was such an honor to play even just the bass sound check for him in MSG. It was the finest act of kindness anyone has ever bestowed on me. He gave me a chance to play bass on one of the biggest staged halls in the world. I get a bit choked up when I think back to that, standing alone on that enormous stage playing my two most favorite songs I've ever heard. Ron knew that too. If the words aren't quite right I had a bit of trouble typing this.

I have to say, that must have been pretty friggin' cool. 8) Led Zeppelin were on that stage, when they were filmed for "The Song Remains The Same" movie, just to name a tiny example of it's history.

Yep. When you consider at that time, the really only other place to perform in NYC that was of that stature, was Then Fillmore East.

I never made into the Fillmore. I thought I was going to one time, but there was a typical emergency that blew that right out of the water, so to speak.

So, since technically this is what the thread was supposed to be about, do you think you'll even get another Mustang bass down the road, or you're not interested in that at this time?

Right now, if and when I have the funds in my favor, no I'm in all probability going to replace the Markbass NY121 cab I returned, to help fund the Hofner. All in all, I have no motivation, need, or GAS to acquire a third bass. How did that sound?

Yeah, I suppose if anything, the additional 12" cab would be a good addition. That would certainly expand your sound, I think. I've been debating about this, but if I were to ever get another bass, it would probably be a short scale bass, because my Ibanez is too damned playable and quick on the neck, because of that, Who knows, though, the long scale version of that bass could play just the same? I've also found myself missing the sound of a Precision Bass, from hearing it on a recording, but the thing with that bass is the neck does take some work to get used to, if you're not. I could say go with the ones with the Jazz necks, but I've noticed despite the easier neck, they quite don't have that certain sound. Maybe that neck factors into it, I don't know. I did notice it, though.

I obviously like a Jazz to compliment the short scale. But that's just me.

Yeah, I already have a Jazz, so that's been taken care of. Although, I will admit that one Squier 70's Jazz was pretty cool, with the maple fretboard.

I'm naming the Hofner as the top main bass. It just plays too well.
