Wow, it came with a bag and a Speakon speaker cable? That's really good deal, then. 8)

A foot switch is also part of the 800 HD package. The carry bag has a front expanded zipper pouch, a flat zipper pouch on the back, a hand carry handle on top, and a detachable shoulder strap. Not too bad for a somewhat medium priced compact head. The more I reflect on it, yep I did a good deal with it. And the Ampeg worked fine along the way also. The 4 ohm cab peaking at a 1,000 Watts fits right into place with the 800 Watts head.

I'm just amazed you got that stuff and it costs the same price as if you didn't get it. I didn't get anything extra with the Ampeg, but I also didn't pay full price for it, either. I think when I do get a bag for it, it will probably be some sort of gym or computer bag, which is big enough for it to fit in. The bag Ampeg wants for it costs $50, which I think it's a bit much for what it is, and does. Sure, it has the logo on it, but I don't really give a damn about that.

The ironic thing about the 800 HD bag, and everything else, I really don't require any of it. I'll keep it of course. The Speakon amp cable, I already had from a Super Bassman head. I think $600. is an ok price for it overall. They don't give you the option to get the head with, or with out the bag, and the other parts. I would've posted for just the head, I guess.

Well, at least you got it, in case you did need it. I actually gave one of my Speakon cables away with the Orange amp when I sold it. I didn't need it, since I only had one cab. I did keep the one that had the Speakon jack on one end, and 1/4" on the other. I did that just in case I needed to plug into an old cab that didn't have Speakon. The great thing about the Ampeg, unlike the Orange, is I don't need a Speakon cable to use it. I do like the Speakon cable, though.

I know what you mean. I like the combination jacks of, 1/4", and Speakon. The 800 HD uses the combination jacks. The combinations use less space in the unit, and on the back panel.

Yeah, that's a great thing they have now. I guess that wasn't out, when that Orange head was made, so that was proprietary with Speakon. If I had to get another speaker cable, it would probably be a 1/4" jack one, even though I like how the Speakon cable works. Mainly, because they are cheaper to get, and there still is the prospect of old cabs with 1/4" jack inputs. Then again, if I could get another cable like the Speakon to 1/4" one on sale, like I did previously, I'd probably jump on that. The damned thing is 25" long, though. It's a bit much, but I suppose you never know if that could come in handy, someday.

I like the Speakon jack's positive locking into the input, or output jacks. It always surprised me that a lot of tube amp heads don't have Speakon jacks, to insure a secure connection to a load.

That's what I like about it, as well. It is a secure setup. I think they also make some sort of jack for basses, but I don't know how they work, since I never looked into it. I've seen pics of them, and there is some sort of red tab on it, with what looks like a standard 1/4" jack. Maybe it just locks in place, and you have to use the tab to release it. I'm not sure if you have to twist it in, or not, like the speaker ones.

I'm not aware of a secure instrument jack. Pretty cool.

I think I noticed that some of the higher end Ibanez basses might have had them.

Oh, by the way, since this thread was once about short scale basses (and no one here currently has a Mustang bass,) look at this that just came out. It's currently out of my price range, but I thought it was cool they put this out again. https://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i ... JDT00-LIST

Yeah, it's like the old school ones before they went to the SG shape. I think they had a model like this out a few years ago, but it might have been more expensive and just in the Pelham Blue finish.

It was something like an EB-11, or EB-13? Double horn?
