I'll be back having another shortie in the mix with the Epi Viola.

I think I may even have the right length Nylons for it also. It's a short scale, but I think because of the configuration of the bridge, a set of medium scale will work. Some players have complained that the silk of the short scale strings seat below the nut. If that is so, mediums should take the silk above the nut to the pegs.

It looks like the same bridge as the one I have with my violin bass, so you'll definitely need medium scale strings for it. I did have to get those for it. I'm also curious to see how the nylons will be on that bass, because it's a similar set up, since I've been reluctant to try them, because they are thicker strings, by nature. Then again, the thickness has to do with the nylon wrapping, not the actual metal of the strings, itself.

Thanks for the heads up on the bridge / string scale. The medium scale is what I was thinking also. I had to use ETB92M medium scale Nylons on the 2015 SG Std. because of the longer Babicz bridge. Fortunately, I still have a pack of the ETB92M Nylons.
I used the LaBella Nylons on the German Hofner, and they sounded fine. I can't see the Nylons not sounding fine on the lesser priced Violin / Viola basses, as on the Hofners.

LaBella actually makes string specific for Hofner basses, as well. AMS actually carries them.

So I take it you decided not to get the Epiphone Viola, or you still are?

The Epi is on its way. I'm doing four basses.

Can't go wrong with that. Is this the Mustang you had before, or a totally new one? Interestingly enough, you'll have a half and half ratio of long and short scale basses.

It's the same Mustang PJ. There was enough cash coming back to me from selling the USA GL Jazz, to add a bit to reacquire the Mustang PJ. It was almost like I pawned the Mustang PJ, and got it out of hock.

Right, and also two Fender, two Epi. Fender long / short, Epi long / short.

The LaBella Nylons I used on the Hofner were the Beatles Bass series strings. I'm glad the Epi Viola uses the bass standard size string pegs. Not like the Hofner using standard guitar size string pegs.

That's good that you were able to get the same Mustang back, since I remember you saying that you liked it. Sometimes, if you get another one, it might not be as good, and you're back to square one.

Yeah, I imagine those smaller tuners are more of a pain in the arse to tune up bass strings with. I guess it's the aesthetic of it, since that's how they were, so they left them like that.

I wasn't too crazy about the Hofner string, and running pegs, etc.
My Mustang PJ still has the Nylons on it too.

Oh, you just left them on it when you got rid of it originally?

Yes, I just thought I'd leave them on, since it was sold to GC as a used bass. It didn't sell yet, because they had to by law, keep it for 30 days before it could be removed from the store. It could be sold, just not actually taken ownership until the 30 days ended. Once again, no one even took it down off of the wall to look at it.
