Yeah, I remember when 200 or 250 watts was considered pretty powerful, or the norm. Then, you got 400 or 450 watt heads come out, then you were really stylin'. I remember seeing a Dean Markley (do you remember when they made amps?) 400 watt bass head for sale in an ad, when I first started playing, and I thought that must have been the ultimate in powerful amplification, then I got that 450 watt Peavey Databass amp, which was pretty friggin' loud, by the way. It needed to be, because my friend at the time, who played guitar, had a 130 watt Peavey Special combo amp. That thing was really loud, and he wasn't shy with the volume knob.

Dean Markley seems to escape me right now. There are a few amps that I can say I'm not familiar with. I was out of touch while working.

I think they were mainly doing that in the 80's. I'm not totally sure. I just remember them being around. They had like a tan tolex on them, and black grills, I think.

That for whatever reason doesn't sound familiar to me at all.

I'm not sure if they were widely know for those, or not. Of course, the strings on the other hand were so.

Like I said, I missed a bit in, and around certain times.

Hmm, I just noticed that you changed the name of the topic and you're missing pics of two of your basses. What happened? You had to sell them, or you're planning on something else?

You blinked, and almost missed it.
I'm just going with two Jazzes at the present time. I have a Fender Player Jazz, Polar White / Maple fretboard, that should be in on Saturday. So I'll pick it up on Monday morning. It's ironic that the Player Series uses the Alnico V pups. The same std. pups the Am. Std. was strung with, until 2012 when they switched out to the CS60's on the Am. Std.'s.

You got tired of the Precision and Mustang basses?

That, and I like the Alnico V pups on a Jazz.

I take it you must have been at the shop messing around with those Jazzes, then? :P

You know, speaking of short scales being short, I'm kind of thinking about stepping away from that format for a bit, and getting back to long scale basses. I'm not 100% sure, because I could just be annoyed with what happened to the Ibanez Talman short scale bass when I tried to record with it, which I haven't figured out. It didn't do that when I first recorded with it. Maybe I have to tweak the truss rod, since I can't raise the bridge any higher (there's no screw length left,) and the action is quite low still. Sure, it's great playing, but it's buzzing like an SOB, and it was intruding with recording. I'm thinking about the truss rod, since that was my only option I had to alleviate the fret buzz that happened with the violin bass. I feel like tell it all to piss off and just getting a decent Precision Bass that I don't have to deal with this crap so much. Sure, I'd have to get used to the longer scale again, but I did manage that for most of my playing career, anyway.

I noticed over the years with playing the Gibson Short Scales, shorties can be a bit temperamental with certain style strings. I mentioned in another thread to your about the Ibanez with the flats on it. You may have to in-fact reset it. I guess higher, the flats maybe just a tad wider. Some flats I'd seen in the past, they were a bit more wider, and made to be held in place as they are strung. Another way of saying, they had a flatter side to them, a top/bottom, and sides.

There were a couple of Jazzes there. A Buttercream / Maple, and a 3-Color Sunburst / Pau Ferro. To me they both sounded fine.

That is a good point. It didn't seem to act up until I did replace the strings. I'm going to try and tweak the truss rod today, and see what happens. I didn't want to have to mess with it, but I don't have much of a choice. If it comes to it, I suppose I could just have it set up by a pro.

That Buttercream finish seems oddly appealing to me, especially with the maple board. Normally, I don't gravitate to yellow. I think if I were able to get one of those basses, I'd want a maple board.
