Oh by the way, since I was talking about this earlier on this thread, I just found a video of Jack Bruce on stage in 1981, and he was playing through an Ampeg SVT stack, with the silver, or light grey covering. It looked like he was playing a Spector fretless bass, although it was possible it was a Warwick, since they pretty much look alike, but it looked like a Spector logo to me. Well, at least I figured one of the amps he used between the time of the Marshall stacks and eventually Hartke. It's so hard to find pics and things online of him like that, other than the time in Cream, and later stuff when he's already using the Hartke and all of that.

The light gray looking SVT cabs were maybe a faded blue from the SVT-AV series. When Jack was till with Cream, he used Sunns from time to time. That was Felix's influence on Jack. He, and Jack were very close friends.

I remember those older Ampegs also had the blue lettering and lines on them, too. I think they reissued that design, with those anniversary amps, or whatever they are, didn't they? I imagine the Sunn amps would have been a lot better than the Marshall amps were for bass. We know the Ox went to using them, after using Marshall, then Hiwatt.

The V-4B had the blue lettering on it. In Mountain, Felix, and West used Sunns. Knight used a Marshall or two for his keyboards. Felix really believed in the Sunns. He claimed they were more reliable than Marshalls. I think he was right. On the road, Marshalls were constantly blowing transformers.

What do you think was the culprit behind that?

The Marshall's Power circuits were designed for the British current. They did make U.S. based heads, but I don't think they adapted everything in the head that should have. Like transformers. Or if they did, they just didn't match up with the US current.

I had a feeling, and I was going to ask if it had something to with that, because of the different voltages in each country, etc.

They made the major adjustments, and parts change outs, but I think the core of the system was still geared for the British power setups. Everyone go's coo-coo for coco puffs over tubes, and forgets the most powerful, and dangerous electrical part in the head, the transformer.

Yeah, and I don't know about back then, but when the transformer fried in my Ampeg SVT-3 Pro that I had, that was an expensive fix. I still remember the day when that thing fried. It was at some rehearsal studio, and I was trying out this drummer and singer, or they were me. Luckily, the studio had a Peavey Mark IV head there, so that worked. I used to have one, and probably should have kept that, too. I also remember just jamming with the drummer, and we had like an almost Who "Live At Leeds" vibe going on, and it was fun, but they never called me back. I guess it was too "jam band" for the singer. Maybe so, since I think he or they wanted to do some sort of punk rock thing, I think. Oh well, on to other things. :P

I had something similar with a band looking for a bass player. At the end of the session, I don't what they wanted, or expected. I looked at it like, your loss, not mine.

Exactly. Besides, often when one door closes, another one opens.

Yep. I didn't dwell on it. I just went on doing what I was doing at that time.

I've managed to do a few things, too. The funny thing is odds are likely they aren't even playing anymore. A lot of people wind up quitting. Not me, I've already put in 30 1/2 years, so I guess I'm a lifer. :P

Yeah, I'm at the point where what the hell else I'm going to do? If anything, I feel like I'm actually gotten somewhere with my playing, although I think you're always learning, so why stop now?
