"Electric Lady" was the JMH signed EKO. When that was taken, there was always an "Electric Lady" so I'd never forget her. This SG Std. is my reminder that the 1969-1970 EBO took the EKO's place. Image

Oh yeah, that's right, I remember the story now. Some douche bag stole that bass from you, didn't they?

Yep! That was the irreplaceable one. Losing that one was the hardest one to lose. Not just that it was from my dad, but the inscription, and special signature on the back of the body.

It's still my all time favorite body shape, and finish. The EB / SG body, and Heritage Cherry. Image

It's my weakness in a long time forever favorite bass. I have to admit also, there has always been something about an Ampeg. I liked them since I first saw them come onto the market in 1969. They looked so massive, and powerful.

I have limited experience with them. I've played on one from 1968, when I was still in Florida, and one of those Epiphone models in the shop where I wound up getting the Peavey bass. I would have gotten the Epiphone, but the tuner was screwed up on it, unfortunately. Otherwise, it was a tight bass. Nice feel, and neck. It's possible that it could have been strung up wrong, and that's why I couldn't get the E string to tune up, I don't know. I suppose it doesn't matter now, since that place closed down, and it's long gone. I've noticed the price on those Epiphones has gone up a bit since then. I would have gotten one instead of the Ibanez, but they were a lot more than I had to cover it at the time. If they were the same price, that would have been no problem. I liked that bass, too. Not to knock the Ibanez, of course.

Another rumor floating around from the new CEO of Gibson. Sit down for this one. The wind is saying, Epiphone may be coming back to be manufactured again in the U.S.A.! That would be great.

Were you playing bass in FL, in 1968? Or did you mean 1986?

That would be interesting to see that about Epiphone. I think that they haven't done that probably since the 60's, then they moved production to Japan. I think the 60's, at least. Maybe into the 70's.

Neither of those, I didn't start playing bass until 1988, and I was born in 1971. I meant the bass was from 1968. It wasn't the EB-3, though. It didn't have the switches on it like Jack Bruce's bass. I do believe it had two pick ups, though. I just don't remember the black selector switch on it.

The EB3 was a 2 pup with the select dial on it. Gibson wired the SG Std.'s to have the sound equivalents of the EB3. I'm not dumping the Fenders, but I sure do like the Gibson. A lot!

Speaking of Gibson basses, when I watched some of their NAMM clips, I thought I spotted some sort of bass that didn't look like either an SG/EB, or a Thunderbird. I haven't attempted to look more into that, yet. I got to find out about this. I haven't seen anything mentioned, and that was all I had seen.

You saw that somewhere? I tried looking for new Gibson basses for 2019, and the only thing that I found in that particular search were new Thunderbird, SG, and EB-4/EB-5 models, which they've had out previously. The EB-4 and EB-5 ones are sort of like Tobias basses, which they own the original model for, and I think (not sure) still make as budget basses like Epiphone. I don't think they're high end models like they were originally, and the dude that started that has another line like that after he sold that to Gibson. Steinberger is the same way.

I saw the Gibson site earlier today. Beats the dirt out of me for what they're doing. Unless they're do some work on the site.

The two sets of ETB92S Nylons came in the mail today. I can't get those locally, so hello GC.com for those. The ETB92S Nylons I have strung on the SG Std. now, were from the Mustang PJ. The "A" string was close fit, but it worked in a pinch. I have a little less then one, and a half wrap on the "A" string. So I think a new set is going to be strung on it tomorrow.
