I have a 1977-78 Musicmaster Bass with two pickups that look and are set excatly like the ones on the full-scale Precison. All the photos of the 1977-78 MM show it with one pickup. Did Fender make any MMs with two pickups or did this have to be a modification by a prior owner?

I can't say for absolute certain, but I'm 98% sure the other pickup was added to that one. Still a cool bass though.

Thanks. I think I'll take it apart to see if there is any evidence of a centrally located pick-up carving that was extended right or left to accommodate an offset one.

Yes, it looks like the original pick-up was removed, the wood routed out and two P-bass style pick-ups inserted in humbucking fashion. The prior owner put a Badass bridge onit, so it would make sense that he/she would have changed the pick-ups too.

Sounds like a cool setup, with that bridge and those p'ups in it.

Mine still has the Strat pickup and original bridge, been thinking of at least upping that pickup but never like to mess with something that isn't broke ya know?

Got photos of it? I had a thread asking folks to post photos of their Musicmaster basses since they aren't very common.

Yes, I tried to include a photo in my original post but this forum can't accommodate direct photo uploads and I don't have a website to which I can provide a link.

I've been using Photobucket for posting photos, it's free and very easy to use, handy because you get a direct link to copy for all your photos.
