I was disappointed to see that it suffered the same probs with intonation and "vanishing" notes as my old Gibson SG and Starfire Bass do.
Hard for the clip on tuner to recognize that low E string, too.

I briefly owned a Japanese Mustang and it had no problems.
I am hoping to try some more PJ Mustangs and hopefully will find one without the aforementioned probs.

How are your PJ Mustangs? Do they have the same probs?

Well...
I just went to a local shoppe Saturday to try another sonic blue one...

I bought it!!! It played, looked, and sounded great.
No problems. Every string and note clear as a bell.
Huge Pbass sound out of the Pbass pickup.
Sounds like my Pbass. I A/B'ed them at home. Sounds just as good as my Pbass.

So this sonic blue one was much better. So if you try one that ain't so great at first, try another. Good ones are out there.
It really is a great shortscale bass. Sound is incredible. I got it for $455. Great price. I am glad Fender makes such a nice shortscale that overcomes the usual shortie tonal probs. But I don't know why the last one had them. Anyway - good ones are out there.

Congrats on your Mustang PJ. I think you made a great choice on it! Best of playing with it! Image

I tried a blue one today and I liked it. Plenty of punch, full deep tone. Finally something besides the rascal.

UPDATE:
I got rid of it because each time after playing it my left arm funny bone hurt.
This is the second Mustang that would hurt funny bone.
Must be the ergonomics don't work for me on Mustangs for some reason. Really weird.
Awesome bass in every other way, though.
Too bad as I really loved it.

Do you rest your arm across the top the body while playing? (the actual left side of the body)

It is the left arm elbow (fretting hand arm) that hurts after playing only Mustang basses. All other basses I have played no problem.
That limb does not contact the body.

Right arm that plucks strings contacts body and doesn't hurt. Draping or not.
