I do like Gibson SG's. The body shape is my favorite.

It does have a nice shape. I never had one, but I've played on a couple, both Gibson and Epiphone.

I would get away from the SG style basses, playing other's, but never liked any other as much as this style.

Maybe you actually just found the right one. I think even mass produced (although, I wouldn't say Gibson basses are probably churned out in mass like Fenders, Squiers, or even Epiphones,) can have their own individual nuances and such.

No two ways about that. Some of the earlier SG Std.'s I had were hit and miss at best. But I can honestly say, these two really are about as close as the better EB0's like the one I had in late 1969/1970.

Perhaps, they are closer to those original specs, or at least the one you had back in the day.

Maybe not only more to the original specs, but these two were turned out only three weeks apart. That means a lot of the parts for both, can be from the same batch. The lumber for the bodies may be from the same batch as well. The necks can also be from the lumber used for those as well.
Serial numbers don't mean that much for when the bass was actually assembled, as it did at one time. Gibson used a half complicated serial number, indicating the manufacture of each unit. That was changed in 2014. Now, they give the day of setup, and release on a Quality Check card that accompanies each bass. A photo of the bass is also shown at the final Quality Check desk.

I wonder how long it takes them to build one of these?

I don't know, but they must have the major parts ready to pull from the shelf. It's possible the two bodies on mine were sitting ready to be used at or about the same time. They just made the Heritage Cherry bass first. Two bodies cut within the same lumber lot, both get a different finish. Who knows. Everything on the two is so close. It's hard to tell even, if there's a difference in the volume, or tone between the two.

Yeah, they must have come from the same stock then.

They very well could have. In this instance there is a decent possibility being that close make up wise.

As crazy as it sounds, the two SG's are the closest in sound, and in manufacture of any two basses I can remember ever having. Kinda' why I really think they're from the same stock. The old Gibson serial number system, as abstract as it was, would've told me down to what batch of the day it was from.
