That sounds good. At least you've had the chance to check out that new fretboard material, or at least new to us, I guess. How would you compare that, if you could to the maple, or rosewood, if you remember it?

The Pau Ferro I think is similar to Rosewood, but is a bit harder from what I've read in the description of the Pau Ferro wood. I like it myself. It feels like it's doing well with my Nylons, and I wouldn't hesitate to use Flats with the Pau Ferro as well. It's sometimes called an Ironwood. To me, sound wise, I think it matches up somewhat closer to a Maple board. So it's almost like having Maple on my Mustang PJ's Fretboard.

So you'd say it had more of a snap to it like maple does? If that would be the right analogy to use.

Pretty much Paul. I do like it more than the Rosewood ones I've had. More like Maple. With the Pau Ferro, I'm not concerned now if they never turn out a Maple board for a Mustang series now. And the grain is pretty decent in at least the Mustang I have. They can call it Pau Ferro, or Ironwood. I don't care, I'm into it.

That sounds good. The Squiers are still rosewood, but I don't know how long are they going to have that going, though. They never changed the price of them like they did with the Fender brand, at least where the rosewood is concerned.

There's no telling how long some of the necks with boards already attached, have been sitting in stock before mounted on a body. I would assume the Rosewood boards not mounted may be the ones caught up in all the govt. entanglement.

That's true. They could have mass produced a whole bunch of necks just to have on hand.

They're actually making new basses for 2018? Did hell freeze over or something? :P

I guess so. Both Thunderbirds, and SG Std.'s. The SG Std.'s are available in Heritage Cherry, Walnut, and Ebony. They don't have the Ebony in house yet, there are four Walnuts there. They had two Heritage Cherry, but one was purchased yesterday at 2:41 PM that afternoon.

That's interesting that they are making them in the ebony finish again, Weren't they not doing that for years, or am I wrong about that? I seem to think they weren't, or maybe it was just the stores that carried them often didn't have that option available.

I'm not up to speed on a lot of the Gibson SG bass production. I know at one time they made them with a stunning White finish, like the SG guitars. Gibson also had some special run of SG Basses, like a sunburst that blew away any Fender. Gibson can make some extraordinary Axes, when they want too! Unfortunately, most of those are Six Stringers. I would probably have gotten in touch with a guitar dept. manager to find out what was a available to order.

I do believe they call their white finish Alpine White. I know they have a few Epiphone basses with that finish. Pretty nice looking, I think. Sometimes, they'll do the Pelham Blue finish, too. Usually, it's 6-stringers that all of the attention, though. That's why I was sort of surprised if they do anything bass related, unless it's under the Epiphone name.

Yep! The Gibson Six Stringers definitely get the nod for everything good. Basses seem to be seen as a necessary evil at Gibson. Alpine White sounds right for the name of that color. In 1968 I had an SG Jr. in Pelham Blue. That was the last Six Stringer I played. I was lousy playing guitar, and tried a friend's bass. That was my change out to playing bass.

Maybe Gibson basses typically come in red, because bass is the red headed step child of the company. :P
