Speaking of 60's music, what do you think of Jack Casady? I was watching some various live clips with him in different incarnations (Jefferson Airplane, Hot Tuna, etc.) and I have to say he's pretty damned good. I know, duh, Captain Obvious. :P It's just I never listened to a lot of that music, other than hearing "White Rabbit" and the other songs they typically play on the radio, and actually gave it a serious listen. I think the main motivation is seeing the video for the 20th anniversary edition of his Epiphone signature bass that's just came out. I have to say, I think that's a killer bass, plus being a semi hollow-body design. I've picked up one of the original gold models many years ago when I happened to see one when I was leaving a music store in Tampa, but I've never had a serious chance to play one and haven't seen another any other time I've been in a shop, just online.

That's all I basically play is 60's music. Jack Cassidy, at that time, along with Jack Bruce, Johne Entwistle, John Paul Jones, Noel Redding, Tim Bogart, Lee Dorman, Larry Taylor, Mark Andes, Jim Fielder, Paul McCartney, Etc. were the basses that influenced so many.
For me back then, he never stood out on his own as a optimal player. Very Good, just not a standout, like McCartney, Bruce, or Andes. Mark Andes from Spirit, was one of the most underrated of the bunch I listed. Of course, you know it's coming, Felix Pappalardi was actually the most natural of any. Felix didn't even look like he knew he was playing his Gibson EB1. His bass lines just flowed so smooth. He was another truly underrated player as was Andes.

It's funny, when it comes to 60's music, I have a tendency to gravitate towards the UK side of things, especially music from the mid 60's, but I think it has to do with the fashion of that time and it was before the whole hippy thing got big. More so Beatles boots than sandals, I guess. :P I have to say there are two bands that do remind me of you and that's how I found your old forum names, it's Spirit and Mountain. I've never really known anyone who really mentioned them too much at all, except maybe my girlfriend, who Felix was her neighbor and she was there the day he was killed. Her apartment was exactly right under his in New York. I wonder if Mountain would still be together if that never happened?

No, there was too much time gone by in 1983. Felix was pretty deaf with tetanus to do any playing. Mountain was a for real upper echelon LOUD BAND! Spirit, Mountain, and Iron Butterfly were my go to music. Then The Beatles, The Who, The Doors, were all listened by me in high regard also.
I know what you mean about the British Invasion though. That was when I began my life's awaking, that totally blossomed in 1969. It for me was a mind opening, rebirth. It was then that I knew I was where I belonged in time. It may sound stupid, but it's true for my life.

You were also the right age for when that happened, too. I think your formidable time in life is when you're in your teens to early 20's. The strange thing for me is that even though I was a teen in the mid to late 80's, that didn't necessarily effect me as much because of older siblings that were from that 60's/70's generation, as well. When I was 15 years old, I was totally obsessed with Led Zeppelin and still love them to this day.

Outstanding, the Force is with you. I'm biased for the 60's early 70's music. I was right in the middle of it all. Like I said it was my time.

I've been reading more positive than negative, about the Mustang PJ basses. I like this one more than the first one I had. It's a lot more finished than the previous PJ was.

I usually do a lot of research with demo videos and reading reviews (actually, that's how I wound up being on this forum regularly in the first place when I bought my Fender bass amp back in 2012) before I buy a piece of gear. I usually don't have the luxury of being able to go to a local shop and trying things out. There really isn't one around here, although there use to be at least 4 or 5 about 14 years ago when I first moved here. At least the local music scene has came back a bit with a few clubs to play around now, or some restaurant/bar places will have acts, too.

That's one thing I do have in the area. 15 Minutes drive south to both a GC, and SA. I think there may still be Modern Music about 25 minutes, and my old favorite, MAE on Davie Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale. 45 Minute drive north, or south to next closest GC. And about an hour drive to North Miami for a SA. There is a another SA way down in mid, to south Miami. That's way to far for me to want to put up with traffic to get there.
I know what you mean though about the smaller stores. There were about 3-4 more stores that in Fort Lauderdale. Good stores too. Those were the ones that were more specialized in certain amp brands.

I imagine the internet killed a lot of those shops and the chain stores like Guitar Center also put a hurting on them. Of course, I'm just as guilty as anyone else with using the internet to buy gear, so I can't lament too much about it without being hypocritical. Then again, I'm pretty sure I would have done business with those shops if they still existed, at least to some level. I bought my Fender bass amp at Guitar Center, but I'd definitely would have rather got that at a more local spot, had there been one. That's of course if they carried the brand. I know a lot of stores don't because of some BS with the company that's been discussed elsewhere on the site.

I went for a while not buying any gear, and then when I was ready to buy some, the only one that was still around was MAE. SA was closer, and their stock was better. I didn't do much online for a long time.

My girlfriend likes to do business with Sam Ash, but there isn't one in Rhode Island, unfortunately. I'd much rather go there than Guitar Center, when it comes to the chain stores. There's a Sam Ash in White Plains, NY that we've been to a few times that's not far at all from Greenwich, Connecticut, where her mom lives, and we were staying at when we did a gig in NYC when I first moved up here and some other occasions. It's been a few years since we've been to it, though. I'm pretty sure it's still around.

I try to give my business to SA over GC as well. But every once in a while, the devil has the Markbass combo, and cab still in their cartons, or an Olympic White Mustang PJ new, just hung on the wall. Some of the staff at GC, are not who I really care to work with either.

Yeah, the GC staff is really the reason she doesn't like to deal with them. I can't say I'd blame her.

Try to not pay attention to the ones that aren't that well versed in gear as they should be. At times though, they do make it tough to do that.
I brought my Markbass to SA to do a deal with them instead of GC. I received a better deal from them on the Markbass there, and they had a Rumble 500 Combo still in the shipping carton.
