I suppose people used whatever they could, or was available at the time. I've used a little Peavey 15 watt guitar combo for a vocal amp (I didn't sing, but my friend did) because we didn't have any sort of PA for practice. We just positioned it on top of a refrigerator that was in the garage apartment room we rehearsed at in the back of his house at the time. It more or less worked to where you could hear the vocals, at least.

You use what's available. 8)

I like the Mustang PJ a lot better than the Gibson SG Std. It's more comfortable to play, overall.

I've never played on an SG or EB bass other than an Epiphone EB0 bass that I would have got instead of that Peavey. It played really nice, but then when I plugged it in and tried to tune it (some idiot detuned a lot of the basses in that store to drop tuning,) the tuner was screwed up. It wouldn't tune up. That place was a total hack shop, anyway. I'm not too sorry they shut down.

I was in a shop similar to that. They didn't stay around either.

No, they often won't. Especially, if they jerk customers around.

You know that's right.

I'm getting very comfortable with this Mustang. A very easy shortie to pick up and play. A lot more friendlier than the Gibson SG Std. The front strap knob is in a better location, so it doesn't flip away from you. Playing the SG Std. was like having it rolled somewhat, with the Fretboard facing toward the floor, instead of facing out.

The strap button is on the back of the of the SG, isn't it? That would make sense why it would do that. The Mustang does look like it would be comfortable to play. It has a nice ergonomics to it.

Absolutely right. The strap goes strait down, instead of on an angle toward the head. The Mustang is a very comfortable playing bass. Gotta' give it to Fender for the Mustang PJ. Funny how the SG Std. has a bad neck dive problem, yet most of the violin style basses that have basically the same strap button location play fine. Is your new Douglas pretty balanced?

Yes, it is. I've only played it standing up a couple of times before I set up in the office, but I didn't notice any sort of neck dive. It's so lightweight, you can barely even notice you have it. The one thing I have to get use to is the real estate on the neck is smaller, so I have to adjust for that. If anything, that will help me get use to playing guitar more, because it's similar in size in some ways. So far though, we haven't did anything to where I'd need to play guitar yet.

That's good. It sounds similar to the Mustang to play, except your violin is a couple of pounds less. The Mustang is 7.8 lbs., I really like that. Kinda' nice, if I want to just grab a bass to quickly try something, the Mustang is that bass for me. Just grab it, and play. A short scale that doesn't have neck dive, is a good go to bass too.

7.8 pounds isn't that bad, considering my Schecter is pushing 10 pounds at 9 and 10 ounces.

The USA GL Jazz is 9.3 Lbs. The Mustang PJ's I saw on Sweetwater weighed in at 7.13, to 8 lbs. even. The Mustang I almost ordered from Sweetwater weighed in at 8 lbs. even. The lightest bass that I knew the weight on, was the Hofner 500/1, at 4.13 lbs.

Wow, I think that's even light than the one I have.

I tried a sonic blue Mustang and it had the same trouble with the low e string intonation and the notes on the 3rd string would sometimes "Vanish" when you would play it like what would happen on the Gibson SG bass. Also, the clip on tuner had a hard time picking up the notes for tuning just like the Gibson SG base. Once I tried a Japanese Mustang and that one didn't have any problems. So I was disappointed to see that the new Mustang PJ base had the same problem as a Gibson SG bass. But that was only one that I tried and I hope to try another one soon. Hopefully that one will be just as nice as the Japanese bass was. I really hope they make an American mustang bass someday.
