Have you seen what's happened to used Mustang prices since new Mustangs disappeared from the supply chain in February? Moderately used two-year old one will now cost you more than new one six months ago. There is definitely strong continued demand for the Mustang, despite the fact that Fender treats Leo's last (and penultimate) creation like some kind poor relation...

This "high"price, is it what the seller ask for or it is the price a buyer had paid for ?

Fairly common to see this when a fairly popular model is no longer available. The new Mustangs coming out soon will take some of the pressure off pricing maybe.

If you try to buy a Fender Japan 51 P-Bass or Sting Artist Series P-Bass you will see the same thing and it has been going on longer. It is just a supply and demand thing. It isn't so much that the Japanese Mustangs are fantastic as it is everyone suddenly wants what they can no longer get. Market value is directly related to demand.

We have yet to see what the MIM Mustangs are really going to be like in hand, so it could be the bass-flation on the Japanese Mustangs is completely warranted. Time will tell. In reality later CBS era versions are still fairly affordable and preferable to Japanese or Mexican versions.

Hey brotherdave. You know for a fact that the new Mustangs are going to be MIM? In another thread on this forum, somebody said that the neck plate indicates that the new Mustangs are either made in China or USA...

If they are not MIM I will eat my Cubs ball cap.

Actually I do know for sure so my beloved cap is safe. Even if I didn't know for sure they were MIM I would still be hoping they would be. Here is why. The last mass production Fender Duo-Sonic models were MIM and Fender is bringing that model back too as part of the same series as the new Mustang Bass. Ensenada did a great job on the last run of MIM Fender Duo-Sonics that was wow...like over 20 years ago. They were totally good shorties and vastly superior to the Asian made Squier version that followed. Frankly better players than one would ever expect.

The MIM Duo-Sonic I had was just a blast to play and wish I had it back but I traded it for a Jazz Bass. (Seems all sorts of keepers got traded for various Jazz Basses but NEVER again as I have sworn them off.) It sounded better than a MIM Strat and was way easier to play. I really am more excited about the Duo-Sonic comeback than the Mustang Bass myself. I just hope they do not change too much on them because they had it so right back in the mid 90's.

You can not find any of the MIM Duo-Sonics anymore because people that have them will not even consider selling them. Today the Squier Duo-Sonics are selling for $500 plus used. Ridiculous! Obviously there is a demand for them. Good that Fender is paying attention to what people want.

It could be that if the series is a hit there will be USA models also, but not at first.

Of note on the new Mustang Bass version is the abandonment of the original Mustang Bass bridge and downsized original Mustang Bass pickup set, which are replaced with a garden variety standard Fender bass bridge and your standard sized P/J pickup arrangement.

The original Mustang Bass Bridge was a most excellent design but the pickup arrangement locked you into either stock or custom wound ($$$) pickups. While I am sorry to see the original bridge go you will have a bigger variety of aftermarket pickup options. I am sure it will be more receptive to bridge upgrades than the original design as well, but other than the body shape and scale there isn't much of C.L.F. left in it. That was a really really good bridge for the day.
